Saatva Mattress Review Breakdown

The Saatva is a hybrid mattress that uses a combination of materials, such as a comfort layer of fiber fill, memory foam, polyfoam and pocketed coils along with a support system of hourglass coils.

The Saatva Mattress is available in three firmness choices and two height choices. The selection of firmness is Plush Soft (3), Luxury Firm (6), as well as Firm (8). The choices for height range between 11.5 inches, and 14.5 inches.

A cover made of natural cotton covers the mattress. The material lets air flow into the mattress, while also feeling soft to the touch.

All three firmness levels have similar comfort systems. They include a Euro-top that has sewn-in cushioning. In the Plush Soft and Luxury Firm versions employ 1.25 inches of polyfoam that is soft, while the Firm version uses 1.5 inches of soft polyfoam. All of the firmness options come with .75 inches of fiber fill and 1 ounce of Dacron to provide cushioning to the mattress’s surface.

Below the Euro-top is beneath it is a .625-inch foam layer and a .375-inch thick layer of memory foam. This thin layer of memory foam is designed to support the lumbar region of the sleeping person to help improve spinal alignment. A 4-inch layer of 14.5 gauge coils encased in foam conforms to the sleeper’s body and promotes a strong air circulation throughout. The coil gauge is in mid-point of spectrum, balancing the ability to adjust and the ability to contour.

Every mattress uses a support core made of hourglass coils that weigh 13 gauge. These coils are made to give the mattress greater durability with the ability to allow for significant airflow throughout the mattress. The 11.5-inch model includes a 4-inch layer of coils. The 14.5-inch version uses a 7-inch layer. The base is made up of a .5-inch loft pad, and an. 875-inch fiber pad to support the coil system. A foam encasement wraps around the edge of the mattress, thereby strengthening the edges.

Mattress Performance

Motion Isolation

While the Saatva does not isolate as much motion as some hybrids however, it’s probably enough for sleepers of all types.

The Saatva’s comfort system uses smaller layers of foam than hybrid models. Instead, it utilizes an additional layer of springs within its comfort systems. These thin layers of foam combined with the Euro-top’s fiber filling absorb some movement and reduce the amount of movement that is felt across the surface of the bed. However, some sleepers will be able to feel some motion transfer in the event that their partner shifts position or wakes up in the night because of the springs’ two layers. Sleepers who are frequently awakened might notice this more often than other sleepers.

Because of its soft touch, the Plush Soft version of the Saatva takes in a bit more motion than the Luxury Firm and Firm options.

Relief from Pressure Relief

All models of Saatva Mattress Saatva Mattress have significant pressure-relieving properties that are equivalent to or superior to the majority of hybrid models.

The Euro-top cushioned the surface of the mattress, while the coils that are pocketed inside the comfort system provide deeper contouring. The cradling helps distribute the weight of the person sleeping on a wider area, relieving pressure points that often occur in the shoulders and hips.

Additionally, the lumbar pad of memory foam can prevent the sleeper’s lumbar region from sinking too much. This extra support promotes better spinal alignment.

Although all of the Saatva firmness options have the ability to alleviate pressure, the amount of pressure relief that a person experiences on the mattress will differ depending on their weight as well as their sleep position. Individuals who weigh under 130 pounds will likely feel the most relief with the Plush Soft version of the mattress, whereas those who weigh over 300 pounds are likely to get the best amount of contouring and support from the firm version.

Temperature Control

While hybrid mattresses tend to rest coolly, Saatva’s construction might assist it to rest cooler than other hybrid mattresses.

The Saatva’s Euro-top uses polyfoam and fiber, which can be considered to be much more comfortable than memory foam. The cotton cover also allows air circulation into the mattress.

Many hybrid models have comfort systems that have thick layers of memory foam and memory foam is known to retain heat. However, the Saatva’s comfort system is made up of coils that are pocketed. Air is able to flow freely between the springs which allow the heat to evaporate off the bed. The support layer of the Saatva uses coils, making the mattress exceptionally air-conditioned.

While all the firmness options could help in promoting a cooler night’s sleep However, Plush Soft is the most effective. Plush Soft version has more constricting properties that can lead to slighter warmth retention.

Edge Support

The Saatva Mattress has a solid enough edge that allows nearly everyone to sit or sleep near the perimeter without sinking too much. The edge reinforcement is great even compared to most hybrid models.

A foam encasement wraps around the perimeter of the Saatva’s two spring layers. This firm foam reduces edge sagging when the sleeper is near the edge. This extra edge stability can increase the surface area of the mattress, as the sleepers will feel secure enough to lie close to the edge without fear of rolling off. A more stable edge can help you sit at an edge mattress, and, consequently, allow for easier access in and out of bed.

Because the Plush Soft version of the Saatva lets people sink in more but its edges might not feel quite as secure as those of the Luxury Firm and Firm versions that the bed. Additionally, individuals who weigh greater than 230lbs may experience more edge sinkage than sleepers who are lighter.

Ease of Movement

Hybrids are generally quite responsive, but Saatva’s usage of polyfoam as well as two layers of springs make it exceptionally responsive in comparison to other hybrids.

The Saatva’s Comfort System is made up predominantly of polyfoam and pocketed coils. While these materials are shaped to fit the body of the person sleeping but they tend to return to their form more quickly that memory foam. This minimizes the possibility of a sleeper feeling “trapped in the mattress” sensation that is often associated with memory foam comfort layers.

The Saatva’s various choices of firmness are likely to be easy for most sleepers to move across and shift positions on. However, most individuals will likely find the firmer versions of the mattress the easiest to move on since they conform less than those of Plush Soft version.

Sex

The Saatva’s combination of responsiveness and traction can make it a better platform to engage in sexual activity than hybrid mattresses that are available.

Its Euro-top has enough conformity to provide traction that some couples find beneficial for sex. 2 layers of coils provide the mattress extra bounce. The firm edge of the Saatva could make it easier for couples to take advantage of the entire surface of the mattress and its mobility may allow couples to change places without difficulty.

The coil’s core might cause a slight creaking sound in time, but it should be quiet enough to provide a relatively discreet experience for the majority of couples.

Off-Gassing

While all mattresses may possess an “new mattress” smell however, the Saatva is likely to have little or no smell. Additionally, any potential smell will be eliminated quickly.

A lot of off-gassing smells originate in the form of synthetic foams. They typically release VOCs, or volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the process of manufacturing. While these odors are generally not thought to be harmful, some individuals may find them unpleasant.

The Saatva is made of synthetic foam however, these foams are shipped through Saatva’s manufacturers partners that are already solid. In addition, since the Saatva utilizes two significant coil layers, it contains less foam than many hybrid models.

We would not expect for the Saatva Mattress to produce very much, if any, odor. If a Saatva Mattress does smell, it should air out quite quickly because of its air-tight construction.

The Body’s Weight and Sleep Style

The way in which you prefer to sleep and your weight will affect which mattresses are suitable for you, which includes the Saatva. While everyone has subjective preferences regarding what is most comfortable, those who are in similar positions and have similar weights are likely to have the same requirements as sleepers.

Side Sleepers:

What They Need:Side sleepers typically require a balance between support and cushioning for an enjoyable night’s rest. The hips and shoulders of side sleepers need to sink into the bed just enough to give relief from pressure points as well as align the spine properly all night. If a bed provides too much cushioning and sink or too much pushback, the spine will not be in alignment which could cause pain down the road.

How the Saatva Fits: When it comes to side sleepers weighing less than 130 pounds, the Plush Soft version of the Saatva is the one we think would be the most suitable to the task. If the Plush Soft option feels too soft, the middle of the road Luxury Firm model will perform well for those who sleep lightly.

People who weigh between 130 to 230 pounds are likely to choose the Luxury Firm version to be the best option. It is made of the same soft polyfoam used for Plush Soft. Plush Soft construction for pressure relief but also has its own firmer feel. The Plush Soft and Firm options can also work well for side sleepers in this weight range, should be the Luxury Firm choice not feel firm or soft enough.

Sleepers with a weight of more than 230 pounds would most likely opt to the firmer model of Saatva. This being said it is possible to choose the Luxury Firm version can be a great option for those who are heavier on their side especially if the standard Firm is too stiff for them.

Back Sleepers

What they require:Back sleepers also require the balancing of cushioning and support, particularly in their lower back. This balance leans toward the firmer and more supportive end of the spectrum to support the lumbar region. People who sleep on their backs will still require some cushioning however too much could cause the lower back to sagging out of alignment.

How the Saatva Fits: For back sleepers who weigh less than 130 pounds, both the Plush Soft and Luxury Firm Saatva models can meet their needs rather well. Both have strong support systems that are balanced with soft foams that cushion.

If you’re one of the people that weigh in between 130 to 230 pounds, those who sleep on their backs will probably find their Luxury Soft Saatva as the best combination of support, firmness and contouring among the three. There are three options to choose from. Plush Soft and regular Firm choices are close second, especially if you have a preference for softer or firmer mattresses.

For back sleepers, those who weigh over 300 pounds are likely to prefer the firm model of Saatva to be the perfect amount of firmness and support. The Luxury Firm is also a good option for heavier sleepers who prefer a softer mattress.

Stomach Sleepers:

What They Need:Stomach sleepers typically require mattresses that are more firm and have more support to prevent them from sinking too deep into the mattress. People who sleep on their stomachs tend to put more concentrated pressure on mattresses than other sleepers, particularly in their midsections. If a mattress is not enough supportive, they could end up sinking into the comfort layers and putting their spines out of alignment.

How the Saatva Fits: Stomach sleepers who weigh less than 130 pounds will likely have success sleeping on both of Plush Soft and Luxury Firm models of the Saatva according to their firmness preferences. The firm Saatva has the same support core as the other two models but the firm polyfoam in the comfort layer provides more of a firmer feel, which might be too stiff for sleepers who are lighter.

The stomach sleepers who weigh between 130 to 230 pounds should seriously consider both Luxury Firm and Firm versions of the Saatva. Both provide the robust support and more firm feeling that stomach sleepers tend to prefer to get a good night’s sleep.

Those who sleep on their stomachs and weigh in excess of the weight of 230 pounds are likely to be for the firm version of the Saatva. Although the luxury Firm Plush Soft and Plush Soft options have the same support system, the feel could be too soft to stop excessive sink.

Saatva Full Size Innerspring Mattress FAQ

Where are Saatva mattresses manufactured?

Saatva mattresses are produced in the U.S. The company owns nineteen factories as well as 145 fulfillment facilities across the United States. About 2,500 mattresses are made each week. The typical Saatva mattress travels fewer than 100 miles between the factory which it is produced at and the buyer’s residence.

Saatva mattresses are “bench constructed,” meaning one craftsman assists in the process of turning the raw materials into a finished product. Saatva does not depend on foreign manufacturing companies. All foams and 85% of other mattress materials are also made in the U.S. The additional 15% of the materials could be sourced internationally.

Is Saatva Classic a good mattress?

Whether a mattress is “good” to you or “bad” to you depends on a few elements, such as your body type, primary sleeping position, as well as general preferences regarding firmness and contouring levels. Every mattress is unique and has a specific design and composition that make it more for certain types of sleepers than other.

That said, mattresses with various firmness options, such as Saatva Classic Saatva Classic can accommodate a greater variety of sleepers than mattresses with only one fixed shape.

  • Saatva Classic models with a plush soft feeling – or a 3 on our 10-point firmness scale – feature extra padding in their Euro-top layers and provide the best body contouring. Side sleepers who weigh up to 230 pounds and back and stomach sleepers with less than 130 pounds will probably find this firmness level most comfortable.
  • Models that are luxurious Firm (6) contour to a moderate extent and also provide a good amount of support. This firmness range is ideal for those who weigh between 130 and 230 pounds, though high-end models have received praise from the majority of our test subjects who weigh 230 pounds or less regardless of sleeping location.
  • The firm (7) feel features less Euro-top padding than other two options which results in more support and less contouring. Back and stomach sleepers who weigh more than 130 pounds will likely prefer these models, though they also have received rave reviews from side sleepers weighing over 230 pounds.

Saatva Classic Saatva Classic is available in two different profiles: 11.5 or 14.5 inches. The 11.5-inch model features a bonnell coil support center which is 4 inches in thickness, while it’s 14.5-inch model’s support center measures 7 inches thick. The latter model provides extra support that may be appealing to those who weigh over 230 pounds.

Regarding overall quality and performance, our testing team has given positive scores to the Saatva Classic in categories like edge support, temperature neutrality ease of movement, responsiveness for sex, and odor potential. Insufficient motion isolation – which is a common issue with hybrids and innersprings appears to be a weakness of the mattress. Moreover, certain Saatva Classic models struggle in specific categories due to their firmness level. Be aware that our ratings are highly subjective and may not reflect your experience with the mattress.

How long does it take to purchase a Saatva Classic mattress?

The majority of mattresses and sleep products utilize standard ground shipping for their purchases. Saatva is a bit different since the company provides free White Glove delivery, which includes in-home assembly and removal of your old mattress and box spring. Since White Glove service is planned, wait times can vary based on the customer.

Saatva Classic models are built to order, which means the production of your mattress will start as soon as you’ve made your purchase. Once the mattress is constructed, tested, and prepared for shipping Saatva’s White Glove delivery team will notify you of the delivery date. One day prior to this date of delivery, you’ll receive an email with confirmation of the delivery time of 4 hours.

An adult aged 18 years or older must be at the residence during the delivery. If you’re in a hurry and the couriers show up at the same time, they’ll stay for 20 minutes before leaving. You can reschedule delivery without charge. If you find that the White Glove couriers are late to arrive on the delivery date the team member will contact you to inform that you are delayed, and will reschedule according to the need.

Saatva’s free White Glove delivery also extends to the brand’s other mattresses bed frames, bed bases, and beds that can be adjusted.

Do you need a box spring with Saatva Classic mattress?

It is not necessary to have to have a box spring to get a Saatva Classic, but this might be the most comfortable option. Box springs are rectangular base featuring interior coils and a fabric-upholstered exterior. Box springs were originally designed with innersprings like the Saatva Classic in mind, but they may not provide sufficient support for the heavier models that are all-latex or made of foam.

You can also use foundations in conjunction along with the Saatva Classic. Foundations do not have coils as box springs but they still provide lots of support. They also tend to be more robust than box springs. However, one drawback to foundations is that they don’t have the cushioning provided by box springs, and can make your mattress appear more firm than preferred.

If you have a box spring and decide you’d like to include a foundation with your new Saatva Classic make sure you know that Saatva’s White Glove couriers will remove your old box spring during delivery for absolutely no cost.

Is it the Saatva Classic a good mattress for sleepers on the side?

The Saatva Classic’s many design options mean that the mattress will be able to accommodate sleepers in various types of positions. There are, however, certain different levels of firmness for the mattress are more comfortable for certain sleeping positions over others.

Saatva Classic ratings from side sleepers in our test crew differed by weight class. Side sleepers who weigh less than 130 pounds have the highest ratings towards Saatva Classic models with luxury plush (3) firmness levels. People who weigh between 130 and 230 pounds awarded the highest scores to models that have the luxury and firm (6) sensation. In addition, side sleepers who weigh over 230 pounds gave the best rating to models with the firm (7) feel.

Based on our assessments of the Saatva Classic’s design, it appears that the shape did not play a major role in tester experiences. Our side sleepers found that the 11.5-inch and 14.5-inch models equally comfortable and comfortable. Saatva Full Size Innerspring Mattress
