Saatva Mattress Review Breakdown

The Saatva is a hybrid mattress that uses an array of materials, including a comfort layer made of fiber fill polyfoam, memory foam, and pocketed coils along with an hourglass support coils.

The Saatva Mattress comes with three firmness choices and two height options. The firmness options are Plush Soft (3), Luxury Firm (6), as well as Firm (8). The choices for height are 11.5 inches, and 14.5 inches.

A cover made of natural cotton enrobes the sleep surface. This material allows airflow into the mattress, while also feeling soft to the feel.

All three firmness levels have similar comfort systems. They include a Euro-top with sewn-in cushioning. The Plush Soft and Luxury Firm models use 1.25 inches of soft polyfoam, while the Firm version uses 1.5 inches of firm polyfoam. Each of the firmness choices are also available with .75 inches of fiber fill and 1 ounce of Dacron to provide cushioning to the surface of the mattress.

Beneath the Euro-top, there is a .625-inch layer of polyfoam, and underneath is a .375-inch thickness of memory foam. This tiny layer of memory foam helps support the lumbar region of the sleeping person to help improve spinal alignment. Then, a four-inch thick layer of 14.5 gauge foam-encased coils adjusts to the body of the sleeper and promotes a strong air circulation throughout. The coil gauge is in that middle point of range which allows for a balance between responsiveness and contouring.

Every mattress uses a support core of 13-gauge hourglass coils. These coils are made to make the mattress more durable and allow for a significant flow of air throughout the mattress. The 11.5-inch version of the mattress includes a 4-inch layer of coils. The 14.5-inch version is made with seven inches of coils. The base has the .5-inch loft pad as well as a. 875-inch fiber pad for support of the coil structure. A foam encasement wraps around the edges of the mattress, thereby strengthening the edge.

Mattress Performance

Motion Isolation

Although the Saatva does not isolate as much motion as some hybrids however, it’s probably enough for sleepers of all types.

The Saatva’s comfort system utilizes thinner layers of foam than many hybrid models. Instead, it uses additional springs inside the system of comfort. These thin layers of foam in combination with the Euro-top’s fibrous filling can absorb some motion which reduces the amount of motion that can be felt on the top of the mattress. But, sleeping people may feel some movement transfer when their partner moves or wakes up during the night due to the springs’ two layers. People who wake easily are likely to notice it more than other sleepers.

Because of its soft feel The Plush Soft version of the Saatva takes in a bit greater motion than firm and luxury models.

Relief from Pressure Relief

All versions and models of the Saatva Mattress have significant pressure-relieving properties that are equivalent to or superior to the majority of hybrid models.

The Euro-top cushions the top of the mattress. Meanwhile, the coils that are pocketed in the comfort system offer greater contouring. The cradling helps spread the sleeper’s weight across a wider area, relieving pressure points that often occur around the hips and shoulders.

Additionally the lumbar pad of memory foam assists in preventing the sleeping person’s midsection from sinking too much. This extra support promotes better spinal alignment.

Although all of the Saatva firmness options offer the potential to relieve pressure, the amount of relief that an individual experiences on the mattress can vary dependent on their weight and sleep position. Individuals who weigh under 130 pounds will likely experience the most pressure relief with the Plush Soft version of the mattress, whereas those who weigh over 250 pounds will probably enjoy the most optimal amount of contouring and support from the firmer model.

Temperature Control

Although hybrid mattresses generally rest coolly, Saatva’s structure may assist it to sleep even cooler than the majority of hybrid models.

The Saatva’s Euro-top is made of fiber and polyfoam. Fiber tends to be more airy in comparison to memory foam. The cover made of cotton also permits air circulation into the mattress.

Many hybrid models have comfort systems with dense sheets of memory foam and memory foam tends to hold heat. But the Saatva’s comfort system consists primarily of coils that are pocketed. Air can flow relatively freely between the springs and allows heat to dissipate away off the bed. The support layer of the Saatva utilizes coils, which makes the mattress extremely breathable.

While all the firmness options could help in promoting an evening that is cooler, The Plush Soft version has more conforming that could lead to slightly more heat retention.

Edge Support

The Saatva Mattress has a sturdy enough edge to permit nearly all individuals to sit or lay on the edges without experiencing excessive sinkage. The edge reinforcement is great when compared with other hybrid mattresses.

A foam encasement is wrapped around the perimeter of the Saatva’s two layers of spring. This thick foam minimizes edge sagging when the sleeper approaches the perimeter. This extra edge stability can expand the usable surface of the mattress since people may feel safe enough to sleep near the edge without worrying about falling off. A more stable edge can also make it easier to rest at edges of bed and, consequently, allow for easier access in and out of the bed.

Because the Plush Soft version of the Saatva allows individuals to take in more of the mattress but its edges might not be as secure as those of the Premium Firm and Firm versions of the mattress. Also, people who weigh over 230 pounds could experience more edge sinkage than lighter sleepers.

Ease of Movement

Hybrid models tend to be quite responsive, but Saatva’s use polyfoam as well as two layers of springs make it exceptionally responsive in comparison to other hybrids.

The Saatva’s comfort system consists predominantly of polyfoam and pocketed coils. Although these materials conform to the sleeper’s body, they tend to regain their shape more quickly as compared to memory foam. This decreases the chance of the sleeper experiencing the “trapped in the mattress” feeling that can be associated with memories foam layers of comfort.

The Saatva’s various choices of firmness are likely to be easy for most users to move around and change positions on. However, most individuals will probably find the firmer models of the mattress the most easy to move around on because they are less pliable than that of the Plush Soft version.

Sex

The Saatva’s combination between responsiveness and traction could offer a more comfortable surface for sexual activities than hybrid mattresses that are available.

Its Euro-top conforms enough to provide traction, which some couples find beneficial for sexual intimacy. 2 layers of coils give the mattress more bounce. The firm edge of the Saatva could help couples to take advantage of the entire surface of the mattress and its mobility may allow couples to change their positions without difficulty.

The coil core may create a little creaking as time passes However, it is quiet enough to offer a fairly quiet experience for most couples.

Off-Gassing

While all mattresses may be scented with an “new mattress” smell but the Saatva is most likely to have little or no smell. Additionally, any potential smell will be eliminated quickly.

Many off-gassing odors come due to synthetic foams. These foams often emit VOCs, or volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from manufacturing. Although these odors are typically not considered to be harmful, some individuals might find them unpleasant.

The Saatva is made of synthetic foam, but these foams ship to Saatva’s manufacturing partners already solid. Additionally, since the Saatva uses two substantial coil layers, it has less foam than other hybrid models.

It is unlikely that the Saatva Mattress to emit an odor, if at all. If a Saatva Mattress does smell, it’s likely to evaporate quickly due to its breathable design.

Sleeping Style and Body Weight

Your preferences for how you sleep as well as your weight are going to impact which mattresses are best for you, which includes the Saatva. Everyone has their own preferences regarding what is comfortable, people who sleep in similar positions and have similar weights are likely to have the same needs as sleepers.

Side Sleepers

What they require:Side sleepers typically require a balance of cushioning and support to get a good night’s sleep. The hips and shoulders of side sleepers need to sink into the bed just enough to provide relief from pressure points and to align their spine correctly through the entire night. If a bed provides too much cushioning and sink or too much pushback the spine could not be in alignment and can cause discomfort in the future.

How the Saatva Fits: When it comes to side sleepers under 130 pounds, it is the Plush Soft version of the Saatva is what we consider best suited to the task. If the Plush Soft option feels too soft then you can choose the more comfortable middle-of-the road Luxury Firm version can work well for those who sleep lightly.

Those who weigh between 130 and 230 pounds should choose the Luxury Firm model to be their best choice. It has the same soft polyfoam used for Plush Soft. Plush Soft construction for pressure relief, but has its own firmer feel. The Plush Soft and Firm options can also work well for those who sleep on their sides within this weight range should choose the Luxury Firm choice not be firm or soft enough.

Side sleepers who weigh over 230 pounds will probably be best off going for the firm model of Saatva. That being said that the Luxury Firm model can be a great choice for heavier side sleepers in particular if the standard Firm is too stiff for them.

Back Sleepers:

What they need:Back sleepers also require an equilibrium of support and cushioning especially around their lower back. This balance leans toward the more supportive and firmer side of the spectrum to strengthen the lumbar region. Sleepers who lie on their backs still need some cushioning, but too much can lead to the lower back sliding out of the proper alignment.

How the Saatva Fits: For back sleepers who weigh less than 130 pounds Both the Plush Soft and Luxury Firm Saatva models will satisfy their requirements pretty well. Both models have strong support systems that are balanced by soft cushioning foams.

For those that weigh in between 130 and 230 pounds, back sleepers are likely to prefer the Luxury Soft Saatva is the ideal combination of support, firmness, and contouring out of the three. Its Plush Soft and regular Firm choices are close second for those who prefer softer or more firm beds.

For back sleepers, those who weigh over 250 pounds should find the Firm version of the Saatva to have the right level of support and firmness. Its Luxury Firm Luxury Firm is an excellent choice for those who are heavier and prefer more of a soft mattress.

Stomach Sleepers:

What They Need:Stomach sleepers typically require an extra firm mattress that has greater support to prevent them from sinking too deep into the mattress. People who sleep on their stomachs are likely to exert more pressure on the mattress than other sleepers, particularly in their midsections. If a mattress isn’t enough supportive, they could risk sinking through the comfort layers and putting their spines out of alignment.

How the Saatva Fits: Stomach sleepers who weigh less than 130 pounds should be able to sleep comfortably on the Plush Soft and Luxury Firm models of the Saatva according to their preference for firmness. The Firm Saatva has the same support core that is used in the two other options however the polyfoam that is firm inside the comfort layer gives an extremely firmer feeling that might be too stiff for lighter sleepers.

The stomach sleepers who weigh between 130 and 230 pounds should be sure to consider both the Luxury Firm or Firm models of Saatva. Both provide the robust support and firmer feel stomach sleepers prefer to get a good night’s rest.

Sleepers who lie on their stomachs and weigh in excess of 230 pounds are probably best in the Firm variant of Saatva. While the luxury Firm Plush Soft and Plush Soft options have the same support system, the feeling could be too soft to prevent excessive sink.

Saatva Mattress Chicago FAQ

Where are Saatva mattresses manufactured?

Saatva mattresses are manufactured by the U.S. The company operates 19 factories and 145 fulfillment centers throughout the United States. About 2,500 mattresses are made every week. The typical Saatva mattress travels fewer than 100 miles between the place where it’s produced and the home of the buyer.

Saatva mattresses are “bench built,” meaning one craftsman assists in the process of turning the raw materials into a finished product. Saatva mattresses do not rely on foreign manufacturers. All foams and 85% of the other mattress materials are also made in the U.S. The additional 15% of the materials could be sourced internationally.

Is Saatva Classic a good mattress?

What makes a mattress “good” and “bad” to you depends on a variety of elements, such as your body type, your primary sleep position, and general preferences regarding firmness and contouring levels. Every mattress is a particular design and composition that make it more suitable for some types of people than others.

However, mattresses that have multiple firmness options like Saatva Classic Saatva Classic can accommodate a greater variety of sleepers than those with one fixed design.

  • Saatva Classic models with a luxurious soft feeling – or a 3 on our 10-point firmness scale – feature extra padding on their Euro-tops and provide the closest to body contouring. People who sleep on their sides who weigh more than 300 pounds, and back and stomach sleepers with under 130lbs will probably feel the most comfortable.
  • Models that have a luxurious Firm (6) contour to some degree and provide decent support. The mid-range firmness is best suited to those who weigh between 130 and 230 pounds, though luxury firm models have earned favorable ratings from most of our testers who weigh 230 pounds or less, regardless of sleep the position.
  • The more firm (7) feel features less padding for the Euro-top than the other two levels of firmness that result in additional support but with less contouring. Back and stomach sleepers who weigh more than 130 pounds will likely choose these types, even though they have also received rave reviews from side sleepers with more than 230 pounds.

The Saatva Classic is available in two styles: 11.5 or 14.5 inches. The 11.5-inch model has the bonnell coil support core that is 4 inches thick while the 14.5-inch model’s support core is 7 inches thick. The latter model provides additional support that could appeal to sleepers who weigh more than 230lbs.

In terms of overall performance and quality, our testing team has awarded positive ratings for Saatva Classic. Saatva Classic in categories like edge support, temperature neutrality, the ease of movement, the responsiveness to sex and the potential for odor. Motion isolation that is below average – an issue that is common with hybrids and innersprings appears to be one shortcoming of the mattress, and some Saatva Classic models struggle in specific areas due to their firmness level. Be aware that our reviews are subjective and could not be a reflection of your experience with this mattress.

What is the time frame to get a Saatva Classic mattress?

Most online mattress and sleep product manufacturers offer the standard ground shipping option for their orders. Saatva is a bit different because the company offers free White Glove delivery, which includes in-home assembly and removal of your old mattress as well as box spring. Since White Glove delivery is scheduled, wait times can vary based on the customer.

Saatva Classic models are built to order, meaning that the production of your mattress will start the moment you’ve placed your order. Once the mattress is constructed, inspected and prepared for shipping and delivery, Saatva’s White Glove delivery team will notify you of an appointment for delivery. A day before the date of delivery, you’ll receive another email to confirm that the delivery will take place within a four-hour timeframe.

An adult aged 18 years or older must be at the residence during the delivery. If you’re in a hurry and your couriers show up at the same time, they’ll stay for 20 minutes before departing. The delivery can be rescheduled for no cost. If the White Glove couriers are late to arrive by the date of delivery the team member will contact you to alert to you about the delays and reschedule according to the need.

Saatva’s no-cost White Glove delivery also extends to Saatva’s other mattresses bed frames, bed bases, and adjustable bed bases.

Do you require a box spring with Saatva Classic mattress?

There is no need for an box spring to get a Saatva Classic, but this may be the most comfortable option. Box springs are rectangular base that has internal coils as well as a fabric-upholstered exterior. Box springs were initially created with innersprings similar to Saatva Classic in mind, but they may not provide enough support for larger all-foam or all-latex models.

You can also use foundations in conjunction in conjunction with the Saatva Classic. Foundations don’t have coils like box springs, but they do deliver plenty of support. They also tend to be more robust as compared to box springs. However, one downside to the foundation is they don’t have the cushioning that comes with box springs and may make your mattress feel firmer than you would like.

If you have an box spring and decide that you’d prefer to incorporate the foundation of your Saatva Classic, remember Saatva’s White Glove couriers will remove your old box spring at absolutely no cost.

Is it the Saatva Classic a good mattress for those who sleep on their sides?

The Saatva Classic’s many design options means the mattress is able to accommodate people sleeping in different types of positions. However, certain degrees of firmness are more comfortable for certain sleeping positions over others.

Saatva Classic ratings from side sleepers in our testing crew varied by weight category. Side sleepers who weigh less than 130lbs received the highest scores for Saatva Classic models with luxury plush (3) degrees of firmness. The 130- to 230 pounds awarded the highest scores to models that have the luxurious and firm (6) sensation. Lastly, side sleepers weighing over 230 pounds gave the highest ratings to models with the firm (7) feel.

Based on our evaluations, the Saatva Classic’s profile didn’t play a significant impact on the user’s experience. Our side sleepers were able to find the 11.5-inch models and 14.5-inch models equally comfortable and accommodating. Saatva Mattress Chicago
