Saatva Mattress Review Breakdown

The Saatva is a hybrid mattress made up of various materials, such as a comfort layer of fiber fill, memory foam, polyfoam and pocketed coils as well as an hourglass support coils.

The Saatva Mattress comes with three firmness choices and two height choices. The selection of firmness is Plush Soft (3), Luxury Firm (6), as well as Firm (8). The height options are 11.5 inches or 14.5 inches.

A knit cover made from natural cotton covers the mattress. This material allows airflow into the mattress and is comfortable to the touch.

All three firmness levels have similar comfort systems. They include a Euro-top sewn-in cushioning. The Plush Soft and Luxury Firm versions use 1.25 inches of polyfoam that is soft, while the Firm version has 1.5 inches of firm polyfoam. All of the firmness options also include .75 inches of fiber filling and 1 teaspoon of Dacron to help cushion the mattress’s surface.

Beneath the Euro-top, there is underneath a .625-inch layers of polyfoam and underneath is a .375-inch thick layer of memory foam. The small layer is designed to support the sleeper’s lumbar region to improve spinal alignment. Next, a 4-inch thick layer of 14.5 gauge coils that are encased in foam adjust to the body of the sleeper and promotes a strong air circulation throughout. This coil gauge is near that middle point of spectrum, balancing flexibility and shaping.

Each mattress is built with a support core of 13-gauge hourglass coils. The coils are designed to ensure the mattress is more durable while allowing for significant airflow throughout the mattress. The 11.5-inch version of the mattress has a layer of 4 inches of coils, while the 14.5-inch version uses 7-inch coils. The base uses a .5-inch loft pad as well as a. 875-inch fiber pad that supports the coil structure. A foam encasement is wrapped around the edges of the mattress to reinforce the edges.

Mattress Performance

Motion Isolation

While the Saatva doesn’t block the motion of other hybrids but it’s certainly adequate for the majority of sleepers.

The Saatva’s Comfort System uses smaller layers of foam than many hybrid models. Instead, it has an extra layer of springs within the system of comfort. These thin layers of foam together with the Euro-top’s fibre filling absorb some movement and reduce the amount of movement that is felt on the surface of the bed. However, some sleepers will be able to feel some motion transfer when their partner moves or rises during the night due to the springs’ two layers. Individuals who are easily awoken might notice this more often than others.

Because of its soft feel Its softer feel Plush Soft version of the Saatva absorbs slightly less motion than Luxury Firm and Firm alternatives.

Pressure Relief

All versions of Saatva Mattress Saatva Mattress have significant pressure-relieving characteristics that are comparable to or better than many hybrid models.

The Euro-top cushions the surface of the mattress. Likewise, the pocketed coils inside the comfort system provide more contouring. The cradling helps spread the sleeper’s weight across a wider area, relieving pressure points that often occur in the shoulders and hips.

Additionally, the lumbar pad of memory foam can prevent the sleeper’s lumbar region from sinking in excessively. This extra support promotes better spinal alignment.

While all Saatva firmness choices have pressure-relieving potential however, the amount of relief that a person experiences on the mattress will vary based partially on their weight and sleeping position. People who weigh less than 130 pounds are likely to feel the most relief on the Plush Soft version of the mattress, while sleepers over 300 pounds are likely to have the greatest balance of contouring and support from the firmer version.

Temperature Control

While hybrid mattresses tend to be cool to sleep on, the Saatva’s design could aid it to sleep even cooler than many other hybrid models.

The Saatva’s Euro-top is made of fiber and polyfoam, which is more breathable than memory foam. The cover made of cotton also permits air circulation into the mattress.

Many hybrid models have comfort systems with thick layers of memory foam, and memory foam tends to trap heat. But the Saatva’s comfort system is primarily composed of pocketed coils. Air is able to flow freely between the springs and allows heat to dissipate away off the bed. The support layer of the Saatva utilizes coils, which makes the mattress extremely comfortable to breathe.

While all the firmness options can help to promote an evening that is cooler, The Plush Soft version has more constricting properties that can lead to some heat retention.

Edge Support

The Saatva Mattress has a sturdy enough edge to permit nearly everyone to sit and sleep near the perimeter without sinking too much. This edge reinforcement is fantastic when compared with other hybrid mattresses.

A foam encasement is wrapped around the edges of the Saatva’s two spring layers. This thick foam minimizes edge sagging as the sleeper gets closer to the perimeter. This extra edge stability can expand the usable surface of the mattress since sleepers may feel secure enough to lie close to the edge without worrying about falling off. A more secure edge may be a plus when it comes to being able to sit on the edge of the bed which could help you get into and out of bed.

Because it is the Plush Soft version of the Saatva allows people to relax more, its edges may not feel quite as secure as those of the Luxury Firm and Firm variants of this mattress. Also, people who weigh over 230 pounds may experience more edge sinkage than lighter sleepers.

Ease of Movement

Hybrid models are typically relatively responsive, but the Saatva’s use of polyfoam and two layers of springs make it exceptionally responsive when compared to the majority of hybrids.

The Saatva’s comfort system consists predominantly of polyfoam and pocketed coils. Although these materials are shaped to fit the body of the person sleeping however, they tend to recover their shape more quickly than memory foam. This reduces the likelihood of sleeping sufferers feeling “trapped in the mattress” feeling that can be caused by memory foam comfort layers.

The Saatva’s various different firmness levels are likely to be simple for users to move around and switch positions on. However, most individuals will likely find the more firm versions of the mattress most comfortable to move across since they conform less than those of Plush Soft version.

Sex

The Saatva’s combination of responsiveness and traction could provide a better surface for sexual activities than hybrid mattresses that are available.

Its Euro-top has enough conformity to provide traction that couples might find beneficial for sexual pleasure. 2 layers of coils give the mattress extra bounce. The firm edge of the Saatva could allow couples to use the full surface of the mattress while its ease of movement may allow couples to change their positions without difficulty.

The coil’s core might create a little creaking as time passes however, it is quiet enough to provide a relatively discreet experience for most couples.

Off-Gassing

While all mattresses may possess an “new mattress” smell, the Saatva is most likely to have very little or no odor. Furthermore, any smell that might be present should air out quickly.

Many off-gassing odors come in the form of synthetic foams. They typically release volatile organic compounds (VOCs) as a result of the manufacturing. Although these odors are typically not believed to cause harm, some individuals may find them unpleasant.

The Saatva is made of synthetic foam, but these foams ship directly to the manufacturing companies of Saatva who are stable. Additionally, since the Saatva utilizes two significant coil layers, the Saatva is made up of less foam than many hybrid models.

It is unlikely that for the Saatva Mattress to produce much if any odor. However, if a Saatva Mattress does smell, it will be able to air out quickly due to its breathable design.

How You Sleep And Your Body Weight

The way in which you like to sleep as well as your weight will determine which mattress is best for you, which includes the Saatva. Although everyone has their own personal preferences about what is at ease, those who are in similar positions and with similar weights are likely to have the same needs as sleepers.

Side Sleepers

What they require:Side sleepers typically require an equilibrium between support and cushioning to ensure an enjoyable night’s rest. Their shoulders and hips need to sink into the mattress just enough to give relief from pressure points as well as to align their spine correctly all night. If a mattress has excessive sink and cushioning or too much pushback, the spine will not be in alignment which can cause discomfort down the road.

How the Saatva Fits: When it comes to side sleepers under 130 pounds that is this Plush Soft version of the Saatva is what we would consider best suited for the job. Should the Plush Soft option feels too soft then the middle of the road Luxury Firm model will work well for those who sleep lightly.

Those who weigh between 130 and 230 pounds will likely choose the luxury Firm model to be their best bet. It has the same soft polyfoam utilized in the Plush Soft construction for pressure relief but also has its own firmer feel. The Plush Soft and Firm options can be used for side sleepers within this weight range in the event that be the Luxury Firm alternative not feel soft or firm enough.

Sleepers with a weight of over 230 pounds will likely be better off opting for the firm variant of Saatva. This being said, the Luxury Firm option will also be a great option for those who are heavier on their side, particularly if the regular Firm feels too firm.

Back Sleepers:

What they need:Back sleepers also require the balancing of cushioning and support, especially around the lower back. This balance leans toward the firmer and more supportive portion of the spectrum in order to strengthen the lumbar region. The people who sleep on their backs will still require some cushioning, but too much can result in the lower back falling out of alignment.

How the Saatva Fits: For back sleepers who weigh less than 130 pounds Both the Plush Soft and Luxury Firm Saatva models will meet their requirements pretty well. Both have strong support systems balanced by soft foams that cushion.

If you’re one of the people with a weight range of 130 and 230 pounds back sleepers will likely find their Luxury firm Saatva as the best combination of support, firmness, and contouring out of the three. Its Plush Soft and regular Firm alternatives are both close contenders particularly if you prefer softer or more firm beds.

Finally, back sleepers who weigh more than 250 pounds should discover the Firm model of Saatva to have the right amount of firmness and support. Its Luxury Firm Luxury Firm is also a good option for those who weigh more and want more of a soft mattress.

Stomach Sleepers:

What They Need:Stomach sleepers typically require an extra firm mattress that has more support to prevent them from sinking to deeply into a mattress. People who sleep on their stomachs are likely to apply more pressure to a mattress than other sleepers, particularly in their midsections. If the mattress isn’t adequately supportive, they may be at risk of sinking into the comfort layers, causing their spines in disarray.

How the Saatva Fits: Stomach sleepers who weigh less than 130 pounds should enjoy sleeping on of Plush Soft and Luxury Firm versions of the Saatva, depending on their preference for firmness. The firm Saatva comes with the same support core as the other two models but the firm polyfoam in the comfort layer provides more of a firmer feel, which may be too hard for sleepers who are lighter.

For stomach-sleepers who weigh in between 130 to 230 pounds should strongly consider both the Luxury Firm as well as the Firm models of Saatva. Both provide the robust support and firmer feel stomach sleepers prefer for a good night’s rest.

Sleepers who lie with their stomachs on and are in excess of 300 pounds are most likely suited to the Firm variant of Saatva. Although the Luxury Firm and Plush Soft options have the same support system, the feel might be too soft to avoid excessive sink.

Saatva Mattress Cover FAQ

Where are Saatva mattresses made?

Saatva mattresses are made in the U.S. The company has 19 factories and 145 fulfillment centers throughout the country. About 2,500 mattresses are made every week. The typical Saatva mattress travels fewer than 100 miles from the location where it’s produced and the buyer’s residence.

The mattresses of Saatva are “bench built,” meaning one craftsman assists in the process of turning the material into a finished product. Saatva mattresses do not rely on any foreign manufacturer. All foams and 85% of the other mattress materials are also sourced in the U.S. The additional 15% of materials may be internationally sourced.

Is Saatva Classic a good mattress?

The decision of whether a mattress is “good” and “bad” suitable for your needs will depend on a few elements, such as your body type, primary sleep position, and your general preferences for firmness and contouring levels. Every mattress is unique and has a specific design and composition that makes it more for certain types of sleepers than others.

That said, mattresses with different firmness choices like the Saatva Classic can accommodate a greater variety of sleepers than mattresses that have one fixed design.

  • Saatva Classic models with a luxurious soft feeling – or a 3 on our 10-point scale of firmness – come with additional padding on their Euro-tops and provide the closest to body contouring. People who sleep on their sides who weigh between 130 pounds and stomach and back sleepers with less than 130 pounds are likely to feel the most comfortable.
  • Models that have a luxurious moderate (6) contour to moderately and offer a decent amount of support. This firmness range is ideal for those who weigh between 130 and 300 pounds, although luxury firm models have earned high marks from the majority of our users who weigh 230 pounds or less regardless of their sleeping the position.
  • The firm (7) feel features less padding for the Euro-top than the other two firmness levels, resulting in extra support and less shaping. Sleepers on their stomachs and backs who weigh more than 130 pounds will likely prefer these mattresses, but they also have received high praise from side sleepers with more than 230 pounds.

The Saatva Classic is available in two different profiles: 11.5 or 14.5 inches. The 11.5-inch model has the bonnell coil support core measuring 4 inches thick, while it’s 14.5-inch model’s support core is 7 inches thick. The latter model provides extra support that may be appealing to those who weigh more than 230 pounds.

Regarding overall performance and quality Our team of testers has given positive scores to the Saatva Classic in categories like edge support, temperature neutrality flexibility of movement, ability to respond to sexual stimulation and the potential for odor. Motion isolation that is below average – a common issue with hybrids and innersprings – is thought to be a flaw in the mattress. Moreover, certain Saatva Classic models struggle in specific areas due to their firmness level. But, remember that the fact that our ratings are highly subjective and might not accurately reflect your experience with this mattress.

How long will it take to buy a Saatva Classic mattress?

Most online mattress and sleep product brands offer standard ground shipping for their purchases. Saatva differs as it offers White Glove delivery, which includes home assembly and removal of your old mattress as well as box spring. Since White Glove service is planned, waiting time will differ for each customer.

Saatva Classic models are built to order, which means production of your mattress will begin as soon as you’ve made your purchase. After the mattress has been built, inspected, and prepared for shipping Saatva’s White Glove delivery team will call you to set the delivery date. A day before the date of delivery, you’ll receive another email to confirm that the delivery will take place within a four-hour timeframe.

An adult aged 18 years or more must be at the address during delivery. If you’re running late and the couriers show up after 20 minutes, they’ll have to wait before departing. You may reschedule the delivery for no cost. If you find that the White Glove couriers are late to arrive on the delivery date A team member will call you to notify you of the delay, and will reschedule as needed.

Saatva’s free White Glove delivery also extends to other mattresses bed frames, bed bases, and base bases that are adjustable.

Do you require a box spring with Saatva Classic mattress?

You don’t necessarily need an box spring for your Saatva Classic, but this may make the best choice. Box springs are rectangular base with internal coils and a fabric-upholstered exterior. Box springs were initially created with innersprings similar to Saatva Classic in mind, but they could not offer sufficient support for the heavier models made of all-latex or all-foam.

Alternatively, you can use a foundation with your Saatva Classic. Foundations do not have coils as box springs, however they provide plenty of support. They are also more durable in comparison to box springs. However, one drawback to foundations is that they don’t have the cushioning provided by box springs and may make your mattress appear more firm than you prefer.

If you own an box spring and decide you’d prefer to incorporate the foundation of your Saatva Classic make sure you know Saatva’s White Glove couriers will remove the old box spring during delivery for no extra cost.

Is Saatva Classic a good mattress for side sleepers? Saatva Classic a good mattress for side sleepers?

The Saatva Classic’s multiple design options means the mattress will be able to accommodate sleepers in various types of positions. There are, however, certain firmness levels for the mattress are more comfortable for specific sleep positions than others.

Saatva Classic ratings from side sleepers of our testing team differed by weight class. Sleepers who weigh less than 130 pounds have the highest ratings for Saatva Classic models with luxury plush (3) degrees of firmness. Those who weigh 130 to 230 pounds awarded the highest scores to models that have the luxurious and firm (6) feel. In addition, side sleepers who weigh more than 230 pounds awarded the best scores to models that have the firm (7) feel.

Based on our tests our Saatva Classic’s shape did not play a major impact on the user’s experience. The side sleepers we tested were able to find both the 11.5-inch and 14.5-inch models equally comfortable and supportive. Saatva Mattress Cover
