The Saatva is available in three firmness options, which it calls Plush Soft, Luxury Firm and Firm. These options correspond to firm (3 in the 10 point firmness scale where 10 is firmest), medium firm (6) and firm (8) in turn.

The Saatva comes in two different heights: 11.5 inches and 14.5 inches. While the 11.5-inch variant falls within the average thickness range however, the 14.5-inch option is high-profile which means it will require deeper sheets.

This review will discuss the Saatva Mattress in-depth. We’ll discuss its construction and performance, as well as sizing prices, customer reviews, pricing and policies of the company. We’ll also highlight how the various versions of the mattress differ in performance and who each may be best for.

Saatva Mattress Review Breakdown

The Saatva is a hybrid mattress made up of various materials, including a comfort layer made of fiber fill polyfoam, memory foam, and pocketed coils along with a support system of hourglass coils.

The Saatva Mattress comes with three firmness choices and two height choices. The selection of firmness is Plush Soft (3), Luxury Firm (6) and Firm (8). The sizes are 11.5 inches or 14.5 inches.

A knit cover constructed of organic cotton covers the mattress. The material lets air flow into the mattress and is smooth to the sensation of the touch.

The three levels of firmness have similar comfort systems that include a Euro-top with sewn-in cushioning. The Plush Soft and Luxury Firm models use 1.25 inches of soft polyfoam, while the Firm option uses 1.5 inches of firm polyfoam. All of the firmness options also include .75 inches of fiber filling and 1 ounce of Dacron to cushion the mattress’s surface.

Below the Euro-top is underneath a .625-inch foam layer and underneath is a .375-inch thick layer of memory foam. The tiny layer of memory foam supports the sleeper’s lumbar region to improve spinal alignment. A 4-inch thickness of 14.5 gauge coils encased in foam conforms to the body of the person sleeping while ensuring a good air circulation throughout. The coil gauge is near the middle of the range which allows for a balance between responsiveness and shaping.

Each version of the mattress uses a support core of 13-gauge hourglass coils. The coils are designed to make the mattress more durable while allowing for significant airflow through the mattress. The 11.5-inch version of the mattress uses a 4-inch layer of coils, while the 14.5-inch version has seven inches of coils. The base is made up of a .5-inch loft pad, and an. 875-inch fiber pad to support the coil system. A foam encasement wraps around the perimeter of the mattress to reinforce the edges.

Mattress Performance

Motion Isolation

While the Saatva isn’t able to isolate enough motion like other hybrids available, it’s likely to be sufficient for most sleepers.

The Saatva’s Comfort System uses smaller layers of foam as compared to hybrid models. Instead, it utilizes an additional layer of springs within the comfort system. The thinner foam layers together with the Euro-top’s fibre fill absorb some motion which reduces the amount of motion that is felt on the surface of the mattress. But, sleeping people may experience some motion transfer when their partner moves or rises in the night because of the mattress’s two layers of springs. People who wake easily might notice this more often than others.

Due to its softer feeling Its softer feel Plush Soft version of the Saatva takes in a bit greater motion than Firm and Luxury options.

Relief from Pressure Relief

All versions and models of the Saatva Mattress have significant pressure-relieving properties that are equivalent to or better than many hybrid models.

The Euro-top cushioned the surface of the mattress. Likewise, the layer of pocketed coils in the comfort system offer greater contouring. This cradling can help spread the sleeper’s weight across a wider area, relieving pressure points that are often found in the shoulders and hips.

Additionally, the memory foam lumbar pad assists in preventing the sleeping person’s midsection from sinking too much. This extra support promotes better spinal alignment.

While all of the Saatva firmness choices have the potential to relieve pressure however, the amount of relief an individual feels on the mattress will differ depending on their weight as well as their sleep position. Individuals who weigh under 130 pounds are likely to have the greatest pressure relief from the Plush Soft version of the mattress, while sleepers over 300 pounds are likely to enjoy the most optimal combination of support and contouring from the firm version.

Temperature Control

While hybrid mattresses tend to sleep cool, the Saatva’s design may help it sleep even cooler than the majority of hybrid models.

The Saatva’s Euro-top uses fiber and polyfoam. Fiber is more comfortable than memory foam. The cotton cover also allows air circulation within the mattress.

Many hybrid models use comfort systems that have thick layers of memory foam and memory foam is known to hold heat. The Saatva’s comfortable system is made up of coils that are pocketed. Air is able to flow freely between springs which allow the heat to evaporate from the mattress. The Saatva’s support layer utilizes coils, which makes the mattress extremely comfortable to breathe.

While all the options for firmness can help to promote the sleep of a cooler temperature however, Plush Soft is the most effective. Plush Soft version has more constricting properties that can lead to slightly more heat retention.

Edge Support

The Saatva Mattress has a solid enough edge to permit nearly all individuals to sit or sleep near the perimeter without experiencing excessive sinkage. This edge reinforcement is excellent even compared to most hybrid models.

A foam encasement wraps around the perimeter of Saatva’s spring layer. This thick foam minimizes the chance of sagging at the edges as the user is near the edge. The added edge stability could increase the surface area of the mattress since sleepers may feel secure enough to lie close to the edge without fear of falling off. A more stable edge can also make it easier to sit on an edge bed, and, consequently, make it easier to get in and out of the bed.

Since it is the Plush Soft version of the Saatva lets people take in more of the mattress, its edges may not be as secure as those of the Premium Firm and Firm variants of the mattress. Additionally, individuals who weigh more than 230 pounds could experience more edge sinkage than sleepers who are lighter.

Ease of Movement

Hybrids are generally quite responsive, but the Saatva’s use of polyfoam and two spring layers make it exceptionally responsive in comparison to other hybrids.

The Saatva’s Comfort System is made up mostly of pocketed coils. Although these fabrics are shaped to fit the body of the person sleeping but they tend to return to their form more quickly as compared to memory foam. This decreases the chance of the sleeper experiencing the “trapped in the mattress” feeling sometimes caused by memory foam comfort layers.

The Saatva’s different firmness levels are likely to be simple for users to move around and shift positions on. But, the majority of people will probably find the firmer versions of the mattress the easiest to move on as they don’t conform as much as those of Plush Soft version.

Sex

The Saatva’s combination and traction can make it a better platform for sexual activities than hybrid mattresses that are available.

Its Euro-top conforms enough to provide traction, which couples may find useful for sexual intimacy. 2 layers of coils give the mattress extra bounce. The Saatva’s sturdy edge may help couples to take advantage of the entire surface of the mattress, while its ease of movement can allow couples to switch positions unimpeded.

The coil’s core might produce some slight creaking in time however, it is quiet enough to provide a relatively discreet experience for the majority of couples.

Off-Gassing

While all mattresses may be scented with an “new mattress” smell however, the Saatva will likely to have little or no odor. Additionally, any potential smell should air out quickly.

Many off-gassing odors are derived in the form of synthetic foams. They typically release VOCs, or volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from manufacturing. Although these odors are typically not thought as harmful to the environment, certain individuals may find them unpleasant.

The Saatva has synthetic foams however, these foams are shipped through Saatva’s manufacturers partners that are already stable. Additionally, since the Saatva uses two substantial coil layers, the Saatva is made up of less foam than other hybrid models.

We would not expect to see the Saatva Mattress to emit an odor, if at all. However, if the Saatva Mattress does smell, it’s likely to evaporate quickly because of its breathable design.

The Body’s Weight and Sleep Style

Your preferences for how you sleep and your weight are going to determine which mattress is best for you, such as the Saatva. While everyone has subjective preferences regarding what is at ease, those who sleep in similar positions and with similar weights are going to share certain needs as sleepers.

Side Sleepers:

What They Need:Side sleepers typically require a balance of cushioning and support to get the best night’s sleep. The hips and shoulders of side sleepers must sink into the mattress just enough to give relief from pressure points as well as align the spine properly through the entire night. If a mattress has excessive sink and cushioning or too much pushback, the spine will not be in alignment which could contribute to discomfort later on.

How the Saatva Fits: When it comes to side sleepers weighing less than 130 pounds and less, this Plush Soft version of the Saatva is what we would think would be the most suitable to the task. If the Plush Soft option feels too soft and squishy, it’s the mid-range Luxury Firm version can work well for side sleepers who are lighter.

People who weigh between 130 to 230 pounds should prefer the luxury Firm model to be their best bet. It has the same soft polyfoam used for Plush Soft. Plush Soft construction for pressure relief, but has its own more firmer feel. This Plush Soft and Firm options are also suitable for those who sleep on their sides in this weight range, in the event that the Luxury Firm option not feel soft or firm enough.

Sleepers with a weight of more than 230 pounds would most likely opt for the Firm variant of Saatva. That being said it is possible to choose the Luxury Firm version can be a great alternative for side sleepers who weigh more, particularly if the regular Firm feels too firm.

Back Sleepers

What they require:Back sleepers also require the balancing of support and cushioning, especially in their lower back. This balance leans toward the more supportive and firmer portion of the spectrum in order to support the lumbar region. People who sleep on their backs will still require some cushioning However, too much cushioning can cause the lower back to sagging out of alignment.

How the Saatva Fits: For back sleepers who weigh less than 130lbs Both the Plush Soft and Luxury Firm Saatva models can meet their requirements quite well. Both have strong support systems balanced by softer foams that cushion.

For those that weigh in between 130 to 230 pounds, back sleepers will likely prefer the Luxury Soft Saatva to be the most ideal combination of support, firmness and contouring of the three. There are three options to choose from. Plush Soft and regular Firm choices are close second particularly if you have a preference for softer or firmer mattresses.

Lastly, back sleepers over 230 pounds will probably find the Firm version of the Saatva to have the right level of support and firmness. Its Luxury Firm Luxury Firm is an excellent choice for those who are heavier and prefer an extra soft mattress.

Stomach Sleepers:

What they need:Stomach sleepers typically require an extra firm mattress that has more support to keep them from sinking too deep into the mattress. Sleepers who lie on their stomachs are likely to apply more pressure to mattresses than other sleepers, especially around their midsections. If a mattress is not adequately supportive, they may be at risk of sinking into the comfort layers and pushing their spines out of alignment.

How the Saatva Fits: Stomach sleepers who weigh less than 130 pounds are likely to enjoy sleeping on of Plush Soft and Luxury Firm models of the Saatva according to their preferences for how firm. The firm Saatva features the same support core that is used in the two other options however the polyfoam that is firm inside the comfort layer gives more of a firmer feel, which could be too firm for sleepers who are lighter.

The stomach sleepers who weigh between 130 to 230 pounds should strongly consider both the Luxury Firm or Firm variants of Saatva. Both offer the strong support and a more firm feel stomach sleepers prefer for a good night’s sleep.

People who sleep on their stomachs and weigh in excess of 300 pounds are most likely suited to the Firm model of Saatva. Although the luxury Firm as well as the Plush Soft options have the same support system, their feel might be too soft to stop excessive sink.

Saatva Mattress Dimensions FAQ

Where are Saatva mattresses manufactured?

Saatva mattresses are produced from the U.S. The company operates nineteen factories as well as 145 fulfillment facilities throughout the United States. About 2,500 mattresses are made each week. The average Saatva mattress travels less than 100 miles from the location where it’s produced and the home of the buyer.

The mattresses of Saatva are “bench built,” meaning one craftsman helps in the process of changing the raw materials into a final product. Saatva mattresses do not rely on any foreign manufacturer. All foams and 85% of the other mattress materials are also manufactured from the U.S. The additional 15% of the materials could be imported from abroad.

Is Saatva Classic a good mattress?

The decision of whether a mattress is “good” or “bad” for you is based on a variety of aspects, including your body type, your primary sleep position, and general preferences regarding firmness and contouring levels. Each individual mattress has a specific design and composition that makes it better suitable for some types of sleepers than others.

However, mattresses that have different firmness choices like the Saatva Classic can accommodate a larger range of sleepers than those with one fixed design.

  • Saatva Classic models with a comfortable and soft feel – or a 3 on our 10-point firmness scale – have more padding on their Euro-tops and provide the best to body contouring. People who sleep on their sides who weigh more than 230 pounds and back and stomach sleepers weighing below 130 lbs are likely to find this firmness level most comfortable.
  • Models that are luxury firm (6) contour to moderately and provide a good amount of support. This firmness range is ideal for side and back sleepers who weigh between 130 and 230 pounds, though the models with a luxurious firm contour have received favorable ratings from most of our test subjects who weigh less than 230 lbs, regardless of sleep location.
  • The moderate (7) feel features less Euro-top padding than the other two levels of firmness which results in more support, but less contouring. Sleepers on their stomachs and backs who weigh 130 pounds or more are likely to prefer these types, even though they have also received rave reviews from side sleepers who weigh more than 230lbs.

Saatva Classic Saatva Classic is available in two profiles: 11.5 or 14.5 inches. The 11.5-inch model has a bonnell coil support core which is 4 inches in thickness, and it’s 14.5-inch model’s support core is 7 inches thick. This model offers a bit more support, which could be appealing to those who weigh more than 230 pounds.

Regarding overall quality and performance Our team of testers has awarded positive marks to this Saatva Classic in categories like edge support, temperature neutrality, flexibility of movement, ability to respond to sexual stimulation and the potential for odor. Motion isolation that is below average – a common issue with innersprings and hybrids – appears to be one shortcoming of the mattress. Additionally, some Saatva Classic models struggle in certain categories because of their firmness levels. Be aware that the fact that our ratings are highly subjective and might not accurately reflect the experience you have had with this mattress.

What is the time frame to purchase a Saatva Classic mattress?

The majority of mattresses and sleep products use the standard ground shipping option for their orders. Saatva differs since the company provides free White Glove delivery, which includes in-home assembly and removal of your old mattress and box spring. Because White Glove delivery is scheduled, waiting time will differ for each customer.

Saatva Classic models are built according to your specifications, so production of your mattress can begin as soon as you’ve placed your order. After the mattress is constructed, tested, and is ready to ship, Saatva’s White Glove delivery team will contact you to schedule an appointment for delivery. A day before the delivery date, you’ll receive another email to confirm the delivery time of 4 hours.

A person who is 18 years old or more must be at the home during delivery. If you’re in a hurry and your couriers show up at the same time, they’ll stay for 20 minutes before leaving. The delivery can be rescheduled for no cost. If you find that the White Glove couriers are late to arrive by the delivery date the team member will notify you to notify you of the delay, and will reschedule according to the need.

Saatva’s free White Glove delivery extends to the brand’s other mattress models frame, bed frames, as well as beds that can be adjusted.

Do you need a box spring with Saatva Classic mattress?

It is not necessary to have an box spring for your Saatva Classic, but this may be the most comfortable option. Box springs are rectangular base that has internal coils, and a fabric-upholstered outer. Box springs were originally created with innersprings similar to Saatva Classic in mind, but they may not provide enough support for larger all-foam or all-latex models.

You can also use foundations in conjunction along with your Saatva Classic. Foundations don’t feature coils like box springs, but they do provide lots of support. They are also more durable as compared to box springs. But, one disadvantage of the foundation is they do not have the cushioning provided by box springs and may make your mattress feel more firm than you prefer.

If you have a box spring that you’ve decided that you’d prefer to incorporate an existing foundation to go with your new Saatva Classic make sure you know Saatva’s White Glove couriers will remove your old box spring at no additional cost.

Is it the Saatva Classic a good mattress for side sleepers?

The Saatva Classic’s multiple design options mean that the mattress is able to accommodate people sleeping in different positions. That said, some firmness levels for the mattress are more comfortable for specific sleeping positions than others.

Saatva Classic ratings from side sleepers of our testing team varied by weight group. Side sleepers who weigh less than 130lbs have the highest ratings for Saatva Classic models with luxury plush (3) firmness levels. The 130- to 300 pounds gave the top scores to models that have the luxurious firm (6) feel. In addition, side sleepers who weigh more than 230 pounds awarded the top ratings to models with the firm (7) feel.

Based on our tests, the Saatva Classic’s design did not play a major impact on the user’s experience. Our side sleepers found both the 11.5-inch as well as the 14.5-inch model equally cozy and comfortable. Saatva Mattress Dimensions
