Saatva Mattress Review Breakdown

The Saatva is a hybrid mattress made up of an array of materials, including a comfort layer made of fiber fill memory foam, polyfoam and pocketed coils along with a support system of hourglass coils.

The Saatva Mattress comes with three firmness options as well as two height choices. The selection of firmness is Plush Soft (3), Luxury Firm (6), as well as Firm (8). The sizes range between 11.5 inches and 14.5 inches.

A knit cover made from natural cotton covers the mattress. This fabric allows airflow to the mattress while feeling comfortable to the feel.

All three firmness levels have similar comfort systems that include a Euro-top that has sewn-in cushioning. The Plush Soft and Luxury Firm versions use 1.25 inches of soft polyfoam, while the Firm option uses 1.5 inches of soft polyfoam. The firmness options are also available with .75 inches of filling made from fiber and one an ounce of Dacron to help cushion the surface of the mattress.

Below the Euro-top is underneath a .625-inch foam layer, and a .375-inch thick layer of memory foam. This tiny layer of memory foam helps support the sleeper’s lumbar region to help improve spinal alignment. Next, a 4-inch layer of 14.5 gauge foam-encased coils adjusts to the body of the sleeper while ensuring a good circulation of air throughout. The coil gauge is near the middle of the range that balances responsiveness and shaping.

Every mattress is built with a support core made of hourglass coils that weigh 13 gauge. These coils are made to ensure the mattress is more durable with the ability to allow for significant airflow throughout the mattress. The 11.5-inch model uses a 4-inch layer of coils. The 14.5-inch version is made with a 7-inch layer. The base is made up of the .5-inch loft pad, and an. 875-inch fiber pad that supports the coil structure. A foam encasement is wrapped around the perimeter of the mattress to strengthen the edge.

Mattress Performance

Motion Isolation

Although the Saatva isn’t able to isolate as much motion as some hybrids on the market, it’s likely to be sufficient for most sleepers.

The Saatva’s Comfort System uses less foam layers than many hybrid models. Instead, it has an additional layer of springs within its comfort systems. These thin layers of foam in combination with the Euro-top’s fibrous filling can absorb some motion and reduce the amount of movement that can be felt on the top of the bed. But, sleeping people may be able to feel some motion transfer in the event that their partner shifts position or wakes up in the night because of the mattress’s two layers of springs. People who wake easily are likely to notice it more than other sleepers.

Because of its soft feeling The Plush Soft version of the Saatva is able to absorb a little less motion than Luxury Firm and Firm alternatives.

Pressure Relief

All models and models of Saatva Mattress Saatva Mattress have significant pressure-relieving properties that are equivalent to or superior to many hybrid models.

The Euro-top cushions the top of the mattress. Likewise, the pocketed coils within the comfort system provides deeper contouring. The cradling may help distribute the weight of the person sleeping on a wider area, relieving pressure points that often occur around the hips and shoulders.

In addition the lumbar pad made of memory foam assists in preventing the sleeping person’s midsection from sinking into the bed too deeply. This additional support helps improve spinal alignment.

While all Saatva firmness choices have the ability to alleviate pressure, the amount of relief an individual feels on the mattress can vary based partially on their weight as well as their sleep position. For those who weigh less than 130 pounds will likely feel the most relief from the Plush Soft version of the mattress, while those who weigh more than 250 pounds will probably get the best balance of contouring and support from the Firm model.

Temperature Control

While hybrid mattresses tend to be cool to sleep on, the Saatva’s design could aid it to sleep even cooler than many other hybrid models.

The Saatva’s Euro-top uses fiber and polyfoam, which is more breathable as compared to memory foam. The cover made of cotton also permits air circulation into the mattress.

Many hybrid models have comfort systems with dense sheets of memory foam and it is also known that memory foam can hold heat. The Saatva’s comfortable system consists primarily of pocketed coils. Air flows quite freely between springs, which allows the heat to escape off the bed. The Saatva’s support layer utilizes coils, which makes the mattress exceptionally air-conditioned.

Although all of the firmness options could help in promoting an evening that is cooler However, the Plush Soft version has more conforming that could lead to slightly more warmth retention.

Edge Support

The Saatva Mattress is built with a strong enough edge that allows nearly all individuals to sit or sleep near the perimeter without excessive sinkage. This edge reinforcement is excellent even compared to most hybrid models.

A foam encasement is wrapped around the perimeter of Saatva’s two layers of spring. This firm foam reduces edge sagging when the sleeper is near the edge. This extra edge stability can increase the surface area of the mattress, as the sleepers will feel secure enough to rest near the edge without fear of falling off. A more stable edge can help you lie at the edge of the bed, which may by extension allow for easier access in and out of the bed.

Because the Plush Soft version of the Saatva allows people to relax more, its edges may not be as secure like those of the Luxury Firm and Firm models of the mattress. Also, people who weigh greater than 230lbs could experience more edge sinkage than lighter sleepers.

Ease of Movement

Hybrids are generally quite responsive, but Saatva’s use polyfoam as well as two spring layers creates a highly responsive model when compared to the majority of hybrids.

The Saatva’s Comfort System is made up predominantly of polyfoam and pocketed coils. Although these fabrics adapt to the body of the user but they tend to return to their shape faster as compared to memory foam. This reduces the likelihood of the sleeper experiencing the “trapped in bed” feeling sometimes caused by memory foam comfort layers.

The Saatva’s firmness options will likely to be simple for sleepers to move across and shift positions on. However, most individuals will likely find the firmer versions of the mattress the easiest to move on as they don’t conform as much as the Plush Soft version.

Sex

The Saatva’s combination between responsiveness and traction can provide a better surface for sexual activity than some hybrid mattresses available.

Its Euro-top has enough conformity to give traction, which couples may find useful for sexual pleasure. The two coils provide the mattress more bounce. The Saatva’s sturdy edge may make it easier for couples to utilize the entire surface of the mattress, as well as its easy movement may allow couples to change their positions without difficulty.

The coil’s core could produce some slight creaking as time passes, but it should be quiet enough to provide a relatively discreet experience for most couples.

Off-Gassing

Although any mattress could possess the “new mattress” smell but the Saatva is most likely to have little or no smell. Additionally, any potential smell must be able to evaporate quickly.

A lot of off-gassing smells originate due to synthetic foams. These foams typically emit VOCs, or volatile organic compounds (VOCs) as a result of the manufacturing. Although these odors are typically not considered as harmful to the environment, certain individuals might find them unpleasant.

The Saatva contains synthetic foam however, these foams are shipped to Saatva’s manufacturing partners already solid. Additionally, since the Saatva uses two substantial coils, it contains less foam than hybrid models.

It is unlikely that for the Saatva Mattress to generate very much, if any, odor. If a Saatva Mattress does smell, it will be able to air out quickly thanks to its air-tight construction.

How You Sleep And Your Body Weight

The way in which you sleep and also your weight are going to impact which mattresses are best for you, which includes the Saatva. Although everyone has their own personal preferences about what is comfortable, people who are in similar positions and have similar weights will have similar needs as sleepers.

Side Sleepers:

What They Need:Side sleepers typically require a balance of cushioning and support to get a good night’s sleep. The hips and shoulders of side sleepers require sinking into the bed only enough to offer relief from pressure points and ensure that their spine is properly aligned all night. If a bed has too much cushioning and sink or pushback, the spine could become out of position and can cause discomfort later on.

How the Saatva Fits: When it comes to side sleepers under 130 pounds, this Plush Soft version of the Saatva is what we would think is the best choice to the task. In the event that Plush Soft option feels too soft then the middle of the road Luxury Firm version will also work well for side sleepers who are lighter.

Those who weigh between 130-230 pounds will likely find the luxury Firm variant to be the best option. It has the same soft polyfoam that is used to make the Plush Soft construction for pressure relief, but has its own firmer feel. This Plush Soft and Firm options can be used for those who sleep on their sides with this weight range, should the Luxury Firm option not be firm or soft enough.

Sleepers who weigh more than 230 pounds would probably be best off going for the firm variant of Saatva. That being said that the Luxury Firm option will also be a great alternative for side sleepers who weigh more, particularly if the regular Firm feels too firm.

Back Sleepers

What they require:Back sleepers also require a balancing of support and cushioning especially around their lower back. This balance tends to be on the more firm and supportive side of the spectrum to support the lumbar region. People who sleep on their backs will still require some cushioning However, too much cushioning can result in the lower back sliding out of alignment.

How the Saatva Fits: For back sleepers who weigh less than 130 pounds, both the Plush Soft and Luxury Firm Saatva models will satisfy their needs rather well. Both come with solid support systems, complemented by softer foams that cushion.

For those that weigh in between 130 to 230 pounds, back sleepers will likely find that the Luxury firm Saatva is the ideal combination of firmness, support and contouring among the three. The Plush Soft and regular Firm options are both close seconds particularly if you prefer softer or firmer mattresses.

Lastly, back sleepers over 300 pounds are likely to discover the Firm version of the Saatva to have the right amount of support and firmness. This model is called the Luxury Firm. Luxury Firm is an excellent choice for heavier sleepers who prefer a softer mattress.

Stomach Sleepers:

What they need:Stomach sleepers typically require mattresses that are more firm and have more support to keep them from sinking too deeply into a mattress. Sleepers who lie on their stomachs tend to put more concentrated pressure on mattresses than other sleepers, especially on their midsections. If a mattress isn’t enough supportive, they could end up sinking into the comfort layers and putting their spines out of alignment.

How the Saatva Fits: Stomach sleepers who weigh less than 130 pounds will likely be able to sleep comfortably on the Plush Soft and Luxury Firm versions of the Saatva, depending on their preferences for how firm. The Firm Saatva has the same support core that is used in the other two models but the firm polyfoam inside the comfort layer gives a significantly firmer feel that could be too firm for sleepers who are lighter.

For stomach-sleepers who weigh in between 130 and 230 pounds should seriously consider both Luxury Firm as well as the Firm versions of the Saatva. Both offer the strong support and more firm feeling stomach sleepers like for a comfortable night’s sleep.

Those who sleep with their stomachs on and are more than 230 pounds are probably best suited to the Firm model of Saatva. Although the luxury Firm Plush Soft and Plush Soft options have the same support system, their feel might be too soft to prevent excessive sink.

Saatva Mattress Package] FAQ

Where are Saatva mattresses made?

Saatva mattresses are produced in the U.S. The company has the 19 manufacturing facilities and has 145 fulfillment centres across the country. Roughly 2,500 mattresses are manufactured every week. The typical Saatva mattress travels fewer than 100 miles from the location where it’s made and the residence of the purchaser.

The mattresses of Saatva are “bench constructed,” meaning one craftsman assists in the process of turning the material into a finished product. The company does not rely on foreign manufacturers. The majority of foams and of other mattress components are also made from the U.S. The additional 15% of materials may be internationally sourced.

Is Saatva Classic a good mattress?

The decision of whether a mattress is “good” to you or “bad” to you will depend on a variety of elements, such as your body type, primary sleeping position, as well as general preference for firmness and levels. Every mattress is unique and has a design and material composition that makes it better for certain types of sleepers than others.

That said, mattresses with different firmness choices like the Saatva Classic can accommodate a wider range of sleepers than those with one fixed design.

  • Saatva Classic models with a comfortable and soft feeling – or a 3 on our 10 point firmness scale – have extra padding in their Euro-top layers and provide the best to body contouring. People who sleep on their sides who weigh more than 300 pounds, and back and stomach sleepers weighing under 130lbs will probably find this level of firmness to be the most comfortable.
  • Models that have a luxurious moderate (6) contour to moderately and provide decent support. The mid-range firmness is best suited to people who weigh 130 to 300 pounds, although luxury firm models have earned praise from the majority of our users who weigh less than 230 pounds regardless of sleeping location.
  • The firm (7) feel features less Euro-top padding than other two firmness levels which results in more support and minimal shaping. Back and stomach sleepers who weigh 130 pounds or more will likely choose these types, even though they have also earned rave reviews from side sleepers weighing more than 230 pounds.

The Saatva Classic is available in two styles: 11.5 or 14.5 inches. The 11.5-inch model has a bonnell coil support center that is 4 inches thick while the 14.5-inch model’s support center measures 7 inches thick. This model offers a bit extra support that may attract sleepers with a weight of more than 230 pounds.

In terms of overall quality and performance Our team of testers has awarded positive marks to Saatva Classic. Saatva Classic in categories like edge support, temperature neutrality, the ease of movement, the responsiveness to sex and the possibility of odor. Insufficient motion isolation – which is an issue that is common with hybrids and innersprings – is thought to be a weakness of the mattress. Additionally, some Saatva Classic models struggle in specific categories due to their firmness level. But, remember that the fact that our ratings are highly subjective and may not reflect your experience with the mattress.

How long does it take to buy a Saatva Classic mattress?

Most online mattress and sleep product manufacturers utilize standard ground shipping for their purchases. Saatva is a bit different as it offers White Glove delivery, which includes assembly at home and removal of your old mattress and box spring. Because White Glove delivery is scheduled, waiting times will vary by customer.

Saatva Classic models are built according to your specifications, so production of your mattress can start the moment you’ve made your purchase. Once the mattress is constructed, inspected and prepared for shipping, Saatva’s White Glove delivery team will call you to set a delivery date. A day before the date of delivery, you’ll receive an email with confirmation of a 4-hour delivery window.

A person who is 18 years old or older must be present at the home during delivery. If you’re running late and your couriers show up, they’ll wait 20 minutes before leaving. The delivery can be rescheduled at no extra charge. If the White Glove couriers are late to arrive on the date of delivery the team member will notify you to alert you of the delay and then reschedule according to the need.

Saatva’s no-cost White Glove delivery extends to the brand’s other mattress models bed frames, bed bases, and beds that can be adjusted.

Do you require a box spring with Saatva Classic mattress?

You don’t necessarily need a box spring for your Saatva Classic, but this could provide the most comfort alternative. Box springs are a rectangular base with internal coils, and a fabric-upholstered outer. Box springs were made with innersprings similar to the Saatva Classic in mind, however, they might not offer sufficient support for the heavier models that are all-latex or made of foam.

You can also use foundations in conjunction with your Saatva Classic. Foundations don’t have coils like box springs, but they do deliver lots of support. They are also more durable in comparison to box springs. However, one drawback to foundations is that they don’t have the cushioning that comes with box springs and could make your mattress feel more firm than preferred.

If you have an box spring and decide that you’d like to use a foundation with your new Saatva Classic be aware Saatva’s White Glove couriers will remove the old box spring upon delivery at no additional cost.

Is the Saatva Classic a good mattress for side sleepers?

The Saatva Classic’s multiple designs means that it is able to accommodate people sleeping in different position groups. However, certain degrees of firmness are more comfortable for specific sleeping positions than others.

Saatva Classic ratings from side sleepers in our test crew varied by weight category. Side sleepers who weigh less than 130 pounds gave the most favorable ratings to Saatva Classic models with luxury plush (3) degrees of firmness. Those who weigh 130 to 230 pounds gave the best ratings to models with the luxury and firm (6) feeling. Lastly, side sleepers weighing more than 230 pounds gave the best ratings to models with the firm (7) feel.

Based on our assessments our Saatva Classic’s design did not play a huge influence on our tester’s experiences. The side sleepers we tested discovered that the 11.5-inch models and 14.5-inch versions equally comfy and comfortable. Saatva Mattress Package]
