Saatva Mattress Review Breakdown

The Saatva is a hybrid mattress that uses an array of materials, including a comfort layer with fiber fill, memory foam, polyfoam and pocketed coils as well as a support system of hourglass coils.

The Saatva Mattress comes with three firmness options as well as two height options. The firmness options are Plush Soft (3), Luxury Firm (6) and Firm (8). The choices for height are 11.5 inches, and 14.5 inches.

A knit cover constructed of natural cotton enrobes the sleep surface. This fabric allows airflow to the mattress and is soft to the touch.

All three levels of firmness feature similar comfort systems. They include a Euro-top with sewn-in cushioning. For the Plush Soft and Luxury Firm versions employ 1.25 inches of soft polyfoam. While the Firm version has 1.5 inches of soft polyfoam. All of the firmness options are also available with .75 inches of filling made from fiber and one ounce of Dacron to help cushion the mattress’s surface.

Under the Euro-top is underneath a .625-inch foam layer and a .375-inch layer of memory foam. This tiny layer of memory foam is designed to support the lumbar region of the sleeper to promote improved spinal alignment. Then, a four-inch layer of 14.5 gauge coils that are encased in foam adjust to the sleeper’s body while ensuring a good circulation of air throughout. The gauge of the coil is in the middle of the range which allows for a balance between responsiveness and contouring.

Each version of the mattress uses a support base of hourglass coils of 13 gauge. The coils are designed to give the mattress greater durability while allowing for significant airflow throughout the mattress. The 11.5-inch mattress includes a 4-inch layer of coils, whereas the 14.5-inch version is made with seven inches of coils. The base uses a .5-inch loft pad, and an. 875-inch fiber pad to support this coil. The foam encasement covers the perimeter of the mattress to reinforce the edge.

Mattress Performance

Motion Isolation

Although the Saatva isn’t able to isolate the motion of other hybrids on the market, it’s likely to be enough for sleepers of all types.

The Saatva’s comfort system utilizes thinner layers of foam than hybrid models. Instead, it uses an additional layer of springs within the comfort system. These thin layers of foam combined with the Euro-top’s fiber fill absorb some motion which reduces the amount of motion that can be felt on the top of the bed. However, some sleepers will be able to feel some motion transfer when their partner changes position or rises at night due to the mattress’s two layers of springs. Individuals who are easily awoken may notice this more than others.

Because of its soft feel Its softer feel Plush Soft version of the Saatva absorbs slightly greater motion than firm and luxury options.

Relief from Pressure Relief

All versions of the Saatva Mattress have significant pressure-relieving features that are equal to or greater than many hybrid models.

The Euro-top cushions the surface of the mattress. Likewise, the layer of pocketed coils in the comfort system offer deeper contouring. The cradling may help spread the sleeper’s weight across more of the area, easing pressure points that often occur in the shoulders and hips.

In addition the memory foam lumbar pad helps prevent the sleeper’s midsection from sinking into the bed too deeply. This extra support promotes better spinal alignment.

While all Saatva firmness options offer the ability to alleviate pressure, the amount of relief that a person experiences on the mattress will differ dependent on their weight and sleep position. For those who weigh less than 130 pounds are likely to experience the most pressure relief with the Plush Soft version of the mattress, whereas those who weigh over 230 pounds will likely get the best combination of support and contouring from the firmer model.

Temperature Control

While hybrid mattresses tend to rest coolly, Saatva’s design might help it sleep even cooler than the majority of hybrid models.

The Saatva’s Euro-top uses fiber and polyfoam. Fiber can be considered to be much more breathable as compared to memory foam. The cotton cover also allows air circulation into the mattress.

A lot of hybrids use comfort systems that have thick layers of memory foam, and memory foam is known to trap heat. The Saatva’s comfortable system is made up of coils that are pocketed. Air can flow relatively freely between the springs which allow the heat to evaporate from the mattress. The Saatva’s support layer uses coils, making the mattress extremely breathable.

Although all of the firmness options can help to promote an evening that is cooler however, the Plush Soft version has more constricting properties that can lead to slighter heat retention.

Edge Support

The Saatva Mattress has a sturdy enough edge to allow almost all individuals to sit or lay on the edges without excessive sinkage. The edge reinforcement is great when compared with other hybrid mattresses.

A foam encasement is wrapped around the edges of the Saatva’s two spring layers. The firm foam helps reduce the chance of sagging at the edges as the user is near the edge. The added edge stability could make it easier to use the entire surface of the mattress, as people may feel safe enough to rest near the edge without fear of rolling off. A more solid edge could also make it easier to rest on the edge of the bed, and, consequently, help you get in and out of bed.

Since it is the Plush Soft version of the Saatva allows individuals to sink in more, its edges may not be as secure as those of the Luxury Firm and Firm variants that the bed. Also, people who weigh greater than 230lbs could experience more edge sinkage than lighter sleepers.

Ease of Movement

Hybrid models tend to be relatively responsive, but Saatva’s use polyfoam and two spring layers make it exceptionally responsive in comparison to other hybrids.

The Saatva’s Comfort System is made up primarily of polyfoam and pocketed coils. Although these materials conform to the sleeper’s body however, they tend to recover their shape faster that memory foam. This minimizes the possibility of sleeping sufferers feeling “trapped in mattress” feeling that can be caused by memories foam layers of comfort.

The Saatva’s choices of firmness are likely to be relatively easy for most sleepers to move across and shift positions on. However, most people will probably find the firmer models of the mattress the easiest to move on since they conform less than the Plush Soft version.

Sex

The Saatva’s combination and traction could provide a better surface for sexual activity than some hybrid mattresses that are available.

Its Euro-top has enough conformity to provide traction, which couples might find beneficial for sexual pleasure. Two layers of coils provide the mattress more bounce. The Saatva’s sturdy edge may help couples to take advantage of the entire surface of the mattress and its mobility could allow couples to swap positions unimpeded.

The coil’s core might cause a slight creaking sound as time passes, but it is quiet enough to offer a fairly quiet experience for couples of all kinds.

Off-Gassing

While any mattress may have a “new mattress” smell however, the Saatva is most likely to have little or no odor. Additionally, any potential smell should air out quickly.

Many off-gassing odors are derived in the form of synthetic foams. They typically release volatile organic compounds (VOCs) as a result of the manufacturing. Although these odors are typically not thought to be harmful, certain people may find them unpleasant.

The Saatva has synthetic foams however, these foams are shipped through Saatva’s manufacturers partners that are already solid. Furthermore, because the Saatva utilizes two significant coils, it has less foam than other hybrid models.

We wouldn’t expect to see the Saatva Mattress to emit very much, if any, odor. If a Saatva Mattress does smell, it will be able to air out quickly due to its breathable construction.

Sleeping Style and Body Weight

The way in which you sleep and your weight are going to affect which mattresses are suitable for you, which includes the Saatva. Although everyone has their own personal preferences about what is comfortable, people who sleep in similar positions and have similar weights are likely to have the same needs as sleepers.

Side Sleepers

What they require:Side sleepers typically require a balance of cushioning and support to get an enjoyable night’s rest. Their hips and shoulders require sinking into a bed just enough to provide relief from pressure points and align the spine properly all night. If a bed provides too much cushioning and sink or too much pushback, the spine could become out of position, which can cause discomfort down the road.

How the Saatva Fits: When it comes to side sleepers weighing less than 130 pounds that is it is the Plush Soft version of the Saatva is the one we think is the best choice for the job. Should the Plush Soft option feels too soft, the middle of the road Luxury Firm model will perform well for side sleepers who are lighter.

Those who weigh between 130 to 230 pounds will likely choose the luxury Firm version to be their best choice. It is made of the same soft polyfoam that is used for the Plush Soft construction for pressure relief, but has its own more firmer feel. The Plush Soft and Firm options are also suitable for sleepers who are side-sleep in this weight range, should choose the Luxury Firm option not be firm or soft enough.

Side sleepers who weigh more than 230 pounds will probably be best off going to the firmer variant of Saatva. This being said, the Luxury Firm option will also be a great alternative for side sleepers who weigh more, particularly if the regular Firm is too firm for you.

Back Sleepers:

What They Need:Back sleepers also require the balancing of support and cushioning especially around your lower back. This balance tends to be on the firmer and more supportive portion of the spectrum in order to strengthen the lumbar region. People who sleep on their backs need some cushioning However, too much cushioning can lead to the lower back sagging out of alignment.

How the Saatva Fits: For back sleepers who weigh less than 130lbs, both the Plush Soft and Luxury Firm Saatva models can meet their needs rather well. Both have strong support systems balanced by soft foams that cushion.

When it comes to those with a weight range of 130 and 230 pounds those who sleep on their backs will probably prefer their Luxury firm Saatva as the ideal combination of support, firmness and contouring of the three. Its Plush Soft and regular Firm alternatives are both close contenders particularly if you prefer softer or firmer mattresses.

Lastly, back sleepers over 300 pounds are likely to find the Firm model of Saatva to provide the ideal amount of firmness and support. This model is called the Luxury Firm. Luxury Firm is an excellent choice for those who weigh more and want an extra soft mattress.

Stomach Sleepers:

What They Need:Stomach sleepers typically require mattresses that are more firm and have more support to prevent them from sinking too deep into the mattress. Sleepers who lie on their stomachs typically put more concentrated pressure on a mattress as compared to other sleepers, specifically in their midsections. If a mattress isn’t enough supportive, they could end up sinking into the comfort layers and putting their spines in disarray.

How the Saatva Fits: Stomach sleepers who weigh less than 130 pounds will likely enjoy sleeping on of Plush Soft and Luxury Firm versions of the Saatva according to their preference for firmness. The Firm Saatva features the same support layer as the other two options however the polyfoam that is firm in the comfort layer creates a significantly firmer feel that could be too firm for lighter sleepers.

The stomach sleepers who weigh between 130 and 230 pounds should seriously consider both Luxury Firm or Firm variants of Saatva. Both provide the robust support and firmer feel stomach sleepers prefer to get a good night’s sleep.

Sleepers who lie on their stomachs and weigh in excess of 230 pounds are probably best in the Firm model of Saatva. Although the Premium Firm and Plush Soft options have the same support system, the feeling may be far too soft to avoid excessive sink.

Saatva Mattress Pad FAQ

Where are Saatva mattresses made?

Saatva mattresses are produced in the U.S. The company operates 19 factories and 145 fulfillment centers across the United States. Around 2,500 mattresses are produced each week. The average Saatva mattress travels less than 100 miles from the location where it’s made and the home of the buyer.

Mattresses from Saatva can be described as “bench built,” meaning one craftsman facilitates the process of transforming the raw materials into a final product. Saatva does not rely on foreign manufacturer. All foams and 85percent of the other mattress materials are also manufactured in the U.S. The remaining 15% of mattresses could be sourced internationally.

Is Saatva Classic a good mattress?

The decision of whether a mattress is “good” or “bad” for you will depend on a few factors, such as your body type, primary sleep position, and general preferences regarding firmness and contouring levels. Every mattress is unique and has a design and material composition that make it more suited to some people than others.

However, mattresses that have different firmness choices like the Saatva Classic can accommodate a wider range of sleepers than those with one fixed design.

  • Saatva Classic models with a plush soft feeling – or a 3 on our 10-point firmness scale – feature additional padding in their Euro-top layers and provide the best to body contouring. Sleepers on the side who weight between 230 pounds and back and stomach sleepers weighing under 130lbs should find this level of firmness to be the most comfortable.
  • Models that are luxury firm (6) contour to some degree and offer a decent amount of support. This mid-range firmness best suits side and back sleepers who weigh 130 to 230 pounds, though high-end models have received favorable ratings from most of our users who weigh less than 230 lbs regardless of sleeping position.
  • The moderate (7) feel features less padding for the Euro-top than the other two options that result in additional support, but very little contouring. Sleepers on their stomachs and backs who weigh 130 pounds or more are likely to prefer these mattresses, but they have also earned rave reviews from side sleepers who weigh more than 230 pounds.

Saatva Classic Saatva Classic is available in two styles: 11.5 or 14.5 inches. The 11.5-inch model has the bonnell coil support core measuring 4 inches thick, and the 14.5-inch model’s support center measures 7 inches thick. The latter model provides additional support that could attract sleepers with a weight of over 230 pounds.

Regarding overall performance and quality Our testing team has given positive scores to this Saatva Classic in categories like edge support, temperature neutrality, flexibility of movement, responsiveness for sex and the possibility of odor. Insufficient motion isolation – which is an issue that is common with innersprings and hybrids – appears to be a flaw in the mattress. Additionally, some Saatva Classic models struggle in specific categories due to their firmness . But, remember that our reviews are subjective and could not be a reflection of your experience with the mattress.

How long will it take to purchase a Saatva Classic mattress?

The majority of online mattress and sleep product manufacturers use the standard ground shipping option for their purchases. Saatva differs since the company provides free White Glove delivery, which includes in-home assembly and the removal of your mattress as well as box spring. Since White Glove service is planned, waiting time will differ for each customer.

Saatva Classic models are built to order, meaning that production of your mattress will begin as soon as you’ve made your purchase. After the mattress is constructed, inspected and prepared for shipping, Saatva’s White Glove delivery team will contact you to schedule the delivery date. A day before the delivery date, you’ll receive another email to confirm a 4-hour delivery window.

A person who is 18 years old or more must be at the address during delivery. If you’re running late and the couriers show up at the same time, they’ll stay for 20 minutes before departing. You may reschedule the delivery for no cost. If the White Glove couriers are late to arrive by the delivery date the team member will notify you to inform you of the delay and then reschedule when needed.

Saatva’s no-cost White Glove delivery also extends to other mattresses bed frames, bed bases, and beds that can be adjusted.

Do you need a box spring with Saatva Classic mattress?

There is no need for a box spring to get a Saatva Classic, but this might be the most comfortable choice. Box springs are rectangular base with internal coils and a fabric-upholstered exterior. Box springs were initially made with innersprings similar to the Saatva Classic in mind, however, they might not offer sufficient support for the heavier all-foam or all-latex models.

Alternatively, you can use a foundation in conjunction with the Saatva Classic. Foundations do not have coils as box springs but they still deliver lots of support. They are also more sturdy in comparison to box springs. But, one disadvantage of foundations is that they lack the cushioning that comes with box springs and could make your mattress appear more firm than you would like.

If you have a box spring that you’ve decided that you’d like to include an existing foundation to go with your new Saatva Classic be aware that Saatva’s White Glove couriers will remove your old box spring at no additional cost.

Is it the Saatva Classic a good mattress for those who sleep on their sides?

The Saatva Classic’s many designs means that it is able to accommodate people sleeping in different types of positions. There are, however, certain degrees of firmness will feel more comfortable in certain sleeping positions than others.

Saatva Classic ratings from side sleepers in our testing crew varied by weight group. Sleepers who weigh less than 130lbs received the highest scores for Saatva Classic models with luxury plush (3) degrees of firmness. Those who weigh 130 to 230 pounds awarded the highest rating to models that had the luxury and firm (6) feel. Additionally, those who sleep on their sides weighing more than 230 pounds awarded the best ratings to models with the firm (7) feel.

Based on our tests our Saatva Classic’s design did not play a huge impact on the user’s experience. Our sleepers on the side were able to find both the 11.5-inch as well as the 14.5-inch models equally comfortable and comfortable. Saatva Mattress Pad
