Saatva Mattress Review Breakdown

The Saatva is a hybrid mattress that uses a combination of materials, including a comfort layer with fiber fill, memory foam, polyfoam and pocketed coils along with a support system of hourglass coils.

The Saatva Mattress is available in three firmness options as well as two height choices. The choices for firmness are Plush Soft (3), Luxury Firm (6) and Firm (8). The choices for height include 11.5 inches, and 14.5 inches.

A knit cover made from natural cotton will cover the sleeping surface. The material lets air flow into the mattress while feeling soft to the touch.

The three levels of firmness have similar comfort systems, which include a Euro-top that has sewn-in cushioning. In the Plush Soft and Luxury Firm models use 1.25 inches of soft polyfoam, while the Firm version has 1.5 inches of soft polyfoam. The firmness options come with .75 inches of fiber fill and 1 an ounce of Dacron to provide cushioning to the mattress’s surface.

Beneath the Euro-top, there is underneath a .625-inch layers of polyfoam, and a .375-inch thick layer of memory foam. This small layer is designed to support the sleeper’s lumbar region to improve spinal alignment. Next, a 4-inch layer of 14.5 gauge coils encased in foam conforms to the body of the sleeper while ensuring a good circulation of air throughout. The gauge of the coil is in that middle point of spectrum, balancing the ability to adjust and shaping.

Each version of the mattress uses a support core made of hourglass coils that weigh 13 gauge. These coils are made to give the mattress greater durability with the ability to allow for significant airflow throughout the mattress. The 11.5-inch model includes a 4-inch layer of coils. The 14.5-inch version uses 7-inch coils. The base uses the .5-inch loft pad, and an. 875-inch fiber pad that supports the coil structure. A foam encasement is wrapped around the edge of the mattress, thereby strengthening the edges.

Mattress Performance

Motion Isolation

While the Saatva does not isolate enough motion like other hybrids available but it’s certainly enough for sleepers of all types.

The Saatva’s Comfort System uses smaller layers of foam as compared to hybrid models. Instead, it has additional springs inside its comfort systems. These thinner layers of foam combined with the Euro-top’s fiber fill absorb some motion and reduce the amount of movement that is felt on the surface of the mattress. However, some sleepers will be able to feel some motion transfer when their partner changes position or gets up during the night due to the springs’ two layers. People who wake easily may notice this more than other sleepers.

Because of its soft touch, the Plush Soft version of the Saatva takes in a bit more motion than the firm and luxury alternatives.

Relief from Pressure Relief

All versions and models of the Saatva Mattress have significant pressure-relieving characteristics that are comparable to or better than many hybrid models.

The Euro-top cushions the top of the mattress, while the coils that are pocketed within the comfort system provides deeper contouring. The cradling may help spread the sleeper’s weight across an entire area, which helps relieve the pressure points that typically occur around the hips and shoulders.

Additionally, the lumbar pad of memory foam helps prevent the sleeper’s midsection from sinking in excessively. This additional support helps improve spinal alignment.

While all of the Saatva firmness options have the ability to alleviate pressure however, the amount of pressure relief an individual feels on the mattress will differ based partially on their weight and sleep position. People who weigh less than 130 pounds are likely to feel the most relief on the Plush Soft version of the mattress, while those who weigh more than 300 pounds are likely to have the greatest amount of contouring and support from the firmer model.

Temperature Control

While hybrid mattresses typically sleep cool, the Saatva’s construction could assist it to sleep even cooler than other hybrid mattresses.

The Saatva’s Euro-top uses fiber and polyfoam. Fiber can be considered to be much more airy in comparison to memory foam. The cover made of cotton also permits air flow into the mattress.

Many hybrid models have comfort systems with thick layer of memory foam and memory foam is known to hold heat. However, the Saatva’s comfort system is made up of coils that are pocketed. Air can flow relatively easily between the coils, which allows the heat to escape off the bed. The Saatva’s support layer uses coils, making the mattress extremely comfortable to breathe.

While all the firmness options could help in promoting an evening that is cooler However, The Plush Soft version has more firmness, which could result in some heat retention.

Edge Support

The Saatva Mattress has a sturdy enough edge to permit nearly everyone to sit or sleep close to the edge without sinking too much. The edge reinforcement is great in comparison to other hybrid models.

A foam encasement wraps around the edges of the Saatva’s two spring layers. This thick foam minimizes edge sagging as the sleeper is near the edge. The extra edge stability may make it easier to use the entire surface of the mattress since the sleepers will feel secure enough to lie close to the edge without fear of falling off. A more stable edge can also make it easier to sit on the edge of the bed, which could make it easier to get in and out of bed.

Since the Plush Soft version of the Saatva allows individuals to relax more than the firmer version, its edges may not be as comfortable like those of the Premium Firm and Firm models of this mattress. Additionally, individuals who weigh more than 230 pounds might experience more sinkage on the edges than those who sleep lighter.

Ease of Movement

Hybrid models are typically quite responsive, but Saatva’s use polyfoam and two layers of springs makes it extremely responsive when compared to the majority of hybrids.

The Saatva’s Comfort System is made up primarily of polyfoam and pocketed coils. Although these fabrics conform to the sleeper’s body however, they tend to recover their shape more quickly as compared to memory foam. This minimizes the possibility of the sleeper experiencing the “trapped in the mattress” sensation that is often caused by memories foam layers of comfort.

The Saatva’s various different firmness levels are likely to be relatively easy for most sleepers to shift and switch positions on. But, the majority of people will likely find the firmer versions of the mattress the easiest to move on because they are less pliable than that of the Plush Soft version.

Sex

The Saatva’s combination between responsiveness and traction could offer a more comfortable surface for sexual activities than hybrid mattresses available.

Its Euro-top conforms enough to provide traction, which couples might find beneficial for sexual intimacy. The two coils provide the mattress more bounce. The Saatva’s strong edge could make it easier for couples to use the full surface of the mattress and its mobility can allow couples to switch their positions without difficulty.

The coil’s core might cause a slight creaking sound in time However, it should be quiet enough to provide a relatively discreet experience for the majority of couples.

Off-Gassing

Although any mattress could possess the “new mattress” smell however, the Saatva is most likely to have very little or no smell. Furthermore, any smell that might be present will be eliminated quickly.

Many off-gassing odors are derived from synthetic foams. They typically release volatile organic compound (VOCs) as a result of the manufacturing. While they are not considered to cause harm, some people may find them unpleasant.

The Saatva is made of synthetic foam However, these foams go directly to the manufacturing companies of Saatva that are already solid. Furthermore, because the Saatva uses two substantial coil layers, it contains less foam than hybrid models.

We would not expect the Saatva Mattress to emit an odor, if at all. If a Saatva Mattress does smell, it will be able to air out quickly because of its breathable construction.

How You Sleep And Your Body Weight

Your preferences for how you like to sleep and also your weight will impact which mattresses are best for you, including the Saatva. While everyone has subjective preferences for what feels comfortable, people who are in similar positions and with similar weights are likely to have the same needs as sleepers.

Side Sleepers

What they require:Side sleepers typically require a balance of cushioning and support to get an enjoyable night’s rest. Their shoulders and hips need to sink into the mattress only enough to offer relief to pressure points and ensure that their spine is properly aligned through the entire night. If a bed has too much sink and cushioning or too much pushback, the spine could become out of position, which could contribute to discomfort down the road.

How the Saatva Fits: When it comes to side sleepers under 130 pounds and less, this Plush Soft version of the Saatva is what we consider best suited for the job. If the Plush Soft option feels too soft and squishy, it’s the mid-range Luxury Firm model will perform well for side sleepers who are lighter.

If you weigh between 130 to 230 pounds will likely find the luxury Firm version to be their best bet. It has the same soft polyfoam utilized in the Plush Soft construction for pressure relief while having its own more firmer feel. Its Plush Soft and Firm options can also work well for sleepers who are side-sleep within this weight range in the event that choose the Luxury Firm choice not feel soft or firm enough.

Sleepers who weigh more than 230 pounds would most likely opt for the Firm variant of Saatva. However that the Luxury Firm option will also be a great option for those who are heavier on their side, particularly if the regular Firm feels too firm.

Back Sleepers

What they need:Back sleepers also require an equilibrium of support and cushioning, particularly in the lower back. The balance is on the more firm and supportive end of the spectrum to strengthen the lumbar region. The people who sleep on their backs still need some cushioning However, too much cushioning can lead to the lower back sliding out of alignment.

How the Saatva Fits: For back sleepers who weigh less than 130lbs Both the Plush Soft and Luxury Firm Saatva models will satisfy their requirements quite well. Both models have strong support systems balanced by soft foams that cushion.

For those who weigh between 130 to 230 pounds, back sleepers are likely to choose the Luxury Soft Saatva is the most ideal combination of firmness, support and contouring of the three. Its Plush Soft and regular Firm choices are close second for those who have a preference for softer or firmer mattresses.

For back sleepers, those who weigh over 230 pounds will probably discover the Firm model of Saatva to have the right amount of firmness and support. This model is called the Luxury Firm. Luxury Firm is an ideal choice for those who are heavier and prefer a softer mattress.

Stomach Sleepers:

What They Need:Stomach sleepers typically require an extra firm mattress that has more support to keep them from sinking too deep into a mattress. People who sleep on their stomachs typically put more concentrated pressure on the mattress than other sleepers, particularly in their midsections. If a mattress isn’t enough supportive, they could be at risk of sinking into the comfort layers and pushing their spines out of alignment.

How the Saatva Fits: Stomach sleepers who weigh less than 130 pounds are likely to enjoy sleeping on the Plush Soft and Luxury Firm models of the Saatva according to their firmness preferences. The Firm Saatva comes with the same support layer as the other two models but the firm polyfoam inside the comfort layer gives an extremely firmer feeling that could be too firm for lighter sleepers.

For stomach-sleepers who weigh in between 130 and 230 pounds should seriously consider both Luxury Firm as well as the Firm versions of the Saatva. Both of them provide the firm support and a more firm feel that stomach sleepers tend to prefer for a good night’s sleep.

People who sleep on their stomachs and weigh in excess of 230 pounds are probably best suited to the Firm model of Saatva. While the Luxury Firm Plush Soft and Plush Soft options have the same support system, the feeling might be too soft to stop excessive sink.

Saatva Mattress Selection FAQ

Where are Saatva mattresses made?

Saatva mattresses are produced from the U.S. The company operates nineteen factories as well as 145 fulfillment facilities throughout the United States. Roughly 2,500 mattresses are manufactured each week. The average Saatva mattress travels fewer than 100 miles between the place where it’s produced and the residence of the purchaser.

The mattresses of Saatva are “bench built,” meaning one craftsman helps in the process of changing the raw materials into a finished product. Saatva does not rely on any foreign manufacturer. All foams and 85% of the other mattress materials are also sourced from the U.S. The additional 15% of mattresses could be sourced internationally.

Is Saatva Classic a good mattress?

Whether a mattress is “good” to you or “bad” suitable for your needs depends on a few elements, such as your body type, your primary sleeping position, as well as general preferences for firmness and contouring levels. Every mattress is a particular design and composition that makes it better suited to some people than others.

However, mattresses that have various firmness options, such as the Saatva Classic can accommodate a wider range of sleepers than mattresses with one fixed design.

  • Saatva Classic models with a plush soft feel – or a 3 on our 10-point firmness scale – feature more padding in their Euro-top layers and provide the best body contouring. People who sleep on their sides who weigh up to 300 pounds, and stomach and back sleepers with under 130lbs are likely to find this firmness level most comfortable.
  • Models with a luxury firm (6) contour to a moderate extent and also provide decent support. The mid-range firmness is best suited to those who weigh 130 to 230 pounds, though high-end models have received high marks from the majority of our users who weigh less than 230 lbs regardless of their sleeping location.
  • The moderate (7) feel features less Euro-top padding than other two levels of firmness which results in more support but with very little shaping. Stomach and back sleepers who weigh more than 130 pounds will likely prefer these types, even though they also have received high praise from side sleepers with over 230 pounds.

Saatva Classic Saatva Classic is available in two different profiles: 11.5 or 14.5 inches. The 11.5-inch model features the bonnell coil support core that is 4 inches thick while one of the 14.5-inch model’s support core measures 7 inches in thickness. The latter model provides more support, which could attract sleepers with a weight of more than 230lbs.

In terms of general quality and performance, our testing team has awarded positive marks to this Saatva Classic in categories like edge support, temperature neutrality ease of movement, responsiveness to sex, and odor potential. Below-average motion isolation – the most frequent issue for innersprings and hybrids – appears to be a weakness of the mattress. Additionally, some Saatva Classic models struggle in certain areas due to their firmness . Be aware that the fact that our ratings are highly subjective and may not reflect your experience with the mattress.

How long does it take to get a Saatva Classic mattress?

Most online mattresses and sleep products utilize regular ground shipping for their orders. Saatva differs since the company provides free White Glove delivery, which includes in-home assembly and the removal of your mattress and box spring. Since White Glove delivery is scheduled, waiting times can vary based on the customer.

Saatva Classic models are built according to your specifications, so the production of your mattress will start as soon as you’ve placed your order. Once the mattress is constructed, tested, and is ready to ship Saatva’s White Glove delivery team will contact you to schedule a delivery date. A day before the delivery date, you’ll get an email with confirmation of the delivery time of 4 hours.

A person who is 18 years old or more must be at the home during delivery. If you’re late and your couriers show up, they’ll wait 20 minutes before leaving. You may reschedule the delivery without charge. If you find that the White Glove couriers are late to arrive by the delivery date, a team member will contact you to alert you of the delay and reschedule according to the need.

Saatva’s free White Glove delivery also extends to Saatva’s other mattresses bed frames, bed bases, and adjustable bed bases.

Do you need a box spring with Saatva Classic mattress?

There is no need for to have a box spring for your Saatva Classic, but this might make the best alternative. Box springs are rectangular base featuring interior coils and a fabric-upholstered exterior. Box springs were made with innersprings similar to the Saatva Classic in mind, but they could not offer enough support for larger models that are all-latex or made of foam.

Alternately, you can utilize a foundation with the Saatva Classic. Foundations do not have coils as box springs, but they do provide ample support. They are also more durable as compared to box springs. However, one drawback to bases is the fact that they don’t have the cushioning of box springs and could make your mattress feel more firm than you would like.

If you own an box spring and decide you’d like to include an existing foundation to go with your new Saatva Classic make sure you know that Saatva’s White Glove couriers will remove the old box spring at absolutely no cost.

Is Saatva Classic a good mattress for side sleepers? Saatva Classic a good mattress for those who sleep on their sides?

The Saatva Classic’s multiple design options mean that the mattress is able to accommodate people sleeping in different types of positions. That said, some degrees of firmness will feel more comfortable for specific sleeping positions than others.

Saatva Classic ratings from side sleepers of our testing team varied by weight category. Sleepers who weigh less than 130lbs have the highest ratings to Saatva Classic models with luxury plush (3) firmness levels. The 130- to 230 pounds gave the best ratings to models with the luxury firm (6) feel. Additionally, those who sleep on their sides weighing over 230 pounds gave the best ratings to models with the firm (7) feel.

Based on our evaluations, the Saatva Classic’s design didn’t play a significant role in tester experiences. Our sleepers on the side discovered the 11.5-inch as well as the 14.5-inch versions equally comfy and supportive. Saatva Mattress Selection
